Lab Assistant

As a Lab Assistant (part-time) you will be working in a team environment to complete various sampling, data and lab related tasks:

- Sample quality monitoring
- Preparation of samples for processing
- Washing, drying and sterilization of dishes
- Preparing bacterial media
- Autoclave sterilization of hazardous biological waste and disposal
- Fridge, freezer, and incubator temperature checks
- Receiving and organizing supplies
- Monitoring and recording inventory of lab supplies
- Laboratory environmental monitoring as required
- Cleaning and disinfection of all surfaces and equipment used
- Laundry of lab linens
- Filing hard copies of sample submission forms
- Scanning hard copies of submission forms into digital versions
- Sample recording and entry into Hendrix Genetics Laboratory Information System and third-party sample submission platforms
- Laboratory equipment cleaning and calibration
- Other duties as assigned by Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager

Position will be based out of our Lab in Kitchener, ON.

**Do you have the following requirements?**
- Experience working in a lab and/or post-secondary degree in science (Biotechnology or Microbiology preferred)
- Positive attitude, good communication
- Highly organized
- Basic computer skills (data entry, Microsoft Office, etc.)
- High attention to detail
- Comfortable with aspectic technique

**What we have to offer**:

- Pay $18-19 per hour to start (based on work experience), with annual pay increase
- Vacation paid on every cheque
- 15 - 20 hours bi-weekly, flexible work schedule (preference is for those who could be available some weekends and a couple of hours between 8AM - 4:30 PM a couple of days between Monday to Friday)
- Year-round, permanent work
