Skoden Flex Staffing is BUILD’s latest social enterprise, a new way to look at temporary labour as a healthy launchpad into full-time, stable employment.

The Skills Instructor provides hands-on tool and safety training for BUILD Trainees and Skoden Flex Staffing participants in the BUILD classroom and training workshop. BUILD Trainees and Skoden Flex Staffing participants are generally individuals facing multiple barriers to employment, and are provided with entry-level trades-based training, essential skills, vocational skills and job preparation training.

**POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

The Skills Instructor operates under the direction of the Training Manager and Skoden Flex Staffing General Manager, and in collaboration with Training Department staff, and is responsible for:
**Program Delivery**
- Preparing and delivering skills-based curriculum
- Participating in information sessions for potential trainees and participants when requested
- Communicating essential information with Executive Director, Training Department staff, Social Enterprise Team, and Finance on program delivery, development, and discrepancies
- Performing other duties consistent with this job description and BUILD’s personnel policies, standards and procedures
- Designing and leading skill-building instructional experiences alone or as part of a team
- Curriculum is designed and delivered by a team and includes at minimum: essentials skills, math, measurement, workplace behaviours, hand and power tool safety, framing, drywalling, mudding, taping and painting.

**Administrative**
- Maintaining training shop, tools, and learning materials
- Assisting in case management meetings
- Tracking and assessing trainee learning progress

**EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum 5 years working in a trades environment
- An understanding of how adults learn and how to cause growth in adult learners
- Ability to mentor and facilitate a supportive classroom environment.
- Experience working with people with multiple barriers to employment, or marginalized populations.
- Superior interpersonal communication skills, and ability to work either independently, or as part of a team.
- Emotional self-awareness and self-care habits to work in a healthy way with survivors of trauma, including an understanding of your own journey
- Awareness of Indigenous cultural practices and willingness to participate in Truth and Reconciliation in the workplace
- Experience in a supportive and mentorship environment
- Computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Willing to obtain a child abuse registry check.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
