**Overview**

In this active, physical role, your focus on safety, accuracy, and customer support will help ensure a smooth and efficient yard operation.
The Lumber yard & warehouse associate is responsible for providing best in class service to a wide variety of customers, while being accountable for maintaining specific zones in both the lumber yard and warehouse. Loading and unloading building materials, storing them in the proper locations, and carefully administering corresponding invoices and transfer documents. These tasks are accomplished by using a variety of equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, lumber carts, etc. This position mandates a solid understanding of building supply inventory, prices, returns and exchange policies.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:
- Must be able to move materials weighing up to 100 pounds around the yard, placing them on or removing them from trucks, pallets, etc.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Identify and assist customers with advice, information, and/or help in gathering and loading orders
- Take all necessary safety precautions when handling freight, tools, and equipment
- Store material in correct locations in the yard
- Keep the yard clean and the inventory neat and orderly
- Be familiar with the locations(s) of all inventory and equipment
- Be familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, including forklift, lumber cart, pallet jack, banding machine, etc.
- Assist customers in handling large or heavy items safely
- Resolve customer complaints and bring forth to management
- Perform all tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.
- Be aware of theft and take action, in line with company policy, to report or discourage it
- Restocking of inventory when they are depleted
- Assist with deliveries and returns
- Receive incoming merchandise
- Check incoming merchandise against orders or invoices, identify damaged goods, shortages, and backorders and report to management
- Report any shortages, damaged goods, and backorders to management
- Work on any special projects assigned by your supervisor/management, after determining their priority in relation to your other duties
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
**SUPERVISOR/MANAGEMENT ASSIGNED DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**:
At anytime your supervisor may request your support. The below are some examples of what to expect:
- Work toward completing a daily list of items/zones/areas of accountability
- Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, and restocking
- Advise the designated manager of shortages, damaged goods, back-orders etc
- Help unload incoming trucks
- Build special displays and signage for sales, promotions and other special events
- Remove sales and promotional displays, prices etc. and rearrange stock following promotional events.
- Check incoming merchandise against invoices to spot shortages, damaged goods, back-orders, etc
- Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
- Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers
- Good mathematical skills, know how to read a tape measure
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, management, and customers
- High School graduation or equivalent an asset but not required
- Willingness to learn
- Prior retail experience beneficial
- G class drivers License with abstract an asset
- Prior retail experience beneficial
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere
**WORKING RELATIONSHIPS**:
