**Summary**:
Our mission is to create spectacular experiences for people that lead to moments of personal growth. The Snowshoe Wilderness Guide provides a safe, fun and engaging experience for our guests by guiding Snowshoe tours in several locations on Cougar Mountain. Safety is the main priority and is the foundation of all decisions made while guiding. The expectation is that our guides present themselves in a professional manner, positively representing The Adventure Group (TAG) and adapting to the diverse needs of each group.
**Responsibilities and Deliverables**:
- Be ready for the start of shift - checks in with guest services/dispatch, ensure they have information for the day (tours, groups, weather, terrain updates, lift status etc), uniform and equipment on and ready prior to preparing for guest arrival
- Prepare for every tour including ensuring all equipment is ready and inspected (snowshoes, boots, poles, first aid backpack, radios, etc), and hot chocolate/cookies are prepared where necessary
- Greet guests; setting the tone for a fun and safe tour. Provide warm welcome and pertinent information for guests to prepare for tour
- Provide clear instructions to the guests on the safe use of snowshoes and trails
- Follow all established protocols including safety, radio protocols and other operating procedures
- Ensure every guest has everything needed for tour. Ensure they have adequate clothing, equipment and be aware of any signs, risks of weather related issues
- Awareness of the terrain risks (loose snow or ice, tree wells) and takes appropriate actions to manage the risks
- Report any equipment damage or incidents to the leadership team
- Follow all safety, evacuation, retrieval and emergency response procedures and protocols. May be part of daily and/or weekly trail, access, equipment and site inspections
- Be very familiar with and abide by all organizational procedures as outlined in The Adventure Group snowshoe guide manuals
- Provide feedback and information to dispatch on trail or team needs
- Ensure any issues, concerns or problems are escalated to leadership or dispatch in a timely and clear manner
- Pay attention to the small stuff - keep trails/gear room clean of garbage, help guests and staff out, etc.
- Provide a fun, interactive tour for the guests. Engage with everyone, provide support and information to help guests feel safe
- Check staff communication channels regularly for updates and information
- Provide operational guidance and support to ensure tours, and Cougar Base Operations, operate and comply with all safety regulations as it pertains to COVID-19
- Ensure compliance in all aspects of SOP’s related to COVID-19
- Provide Management feedback and input to improve safety processes and procedures as it pertains to running TAG while keeping our guests and employees safe from COVID-19
- Responsible for sanitation tasks related to prevention of COVID-19
- TAG is proud to have a dynamic team who roll up their sleeves to get the work done. As such, this role may require helping out other team members and departments as needed.
**Key Qualifications and Attributes**:
- Maintain a valid minimum 16-hour first-aid certification
- Previous experience working in customer service required
- Previous experience working in outdoor activities and/or adventure tourism an asset
- Valid Driver’s License
- Be physically fit: able to lift up to 30lbs, be outdoors and on feet for majority of day in variable weather conditions, high degree of mobility and able to use both hands for physical work and walk/snowshoe for several hours a day
- Positive, supportive, respectful, attitude - with both guests and staff
- Flexible and adaptable - every day is different; every tour is different. This role requires someone who is adaptable to changes.
- Flexible to diverse working hours - early mornings, evenings and weekends
- Proven ability to communicate clearly - very important in ensuring guests have clear instructions, radio communication is clear and concise, and information is shared in a timely manner
