Lead Operator

**The Lead Chemical Operator is **responsible for the safe manufacturing process while assisting management in supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in operating a variety of machines to manufacture specialty chemicals as well as other related activities including but not limited too; all production requirements, laboratory functions, shipping /receiving functions, warehousing, EHS activities throughout the facility as assigned by the Plant Manager or designee including. The safe operation of Fork Trucks, filling and or emptying of totes, loading/unloading rail cars, tanker trucks, van and or intermodal trailer.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Assumes Plant supervisor responsibilities during holidays or absences.
- Upholds the highest standards of safety, ethics, peer keeping, quality, and housekeeping.
- Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety standards. Identifies and reports or resolves hazards.
- Participates in EHS Behavior Based Safety program, Daily and Monthly Safety meetings, Web Based training programs, Personal Safety Action Plans, Critical Life Safety, EHS Management System and Environmental Operational Management practices.
- Ensure Lab and QA procedures are followed per GCP’s requirements in addition to ensuring product quality standards is maintained and documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Daily management of the Shipping and Receiving Department to assure that:
- Orders are evaluated, scheduled appropriately to ensure timely delivery to customers.
- All shipments are prepared to order, properly loaded and offered in accordance with DOT regulations.
- All receivables are properly accounted for, labeled and distributed to the appropriate storage areas within the plant.
- All receivables and outgoing shipments are posted in SAP daily and documentation filed appropriately.
- Informs Plant Supervisor and/or Customer Service of any inability to meet customer delivery requirements and solutions to resolve and correct this deficiency.
- Assists in all monthly inventory counts and reconciliations.
- Participates in daily plant housekeeping within all production and warehousing areas as assigned by the Production Team Leader.
- Informs peers and management of any maintenance requirements and or activities necessary to ensure the safe, efficient operation of plant equipment and systems. Utilize Lean principles and communication actions sheets or work order forms to demonstrate improvements processes.
- Participates in scheduled team meetings to recommend any necessary changes in procedures that will improve quality, improve production output, reduce costs, improve health and safety, and decrease waste generation.
- Engages employees to become a best in class company and make GCP a safer place to work.
- Peer keeping, provides positive coaching and mentoring, help provide a safe work environment, team spirit and employee development.
- Produces finished product to fill Customer demands in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
- Possesses knowledge of equipment and process operation, and assists in a hands on manner when employees are absent, volume demand, breakdown and weekends
- Cross train in Quality Control Procedures and serve as back-up as needed to sample and analyze production batches.
- Completes all regulatory testing and conducts safety meetings for operations personnel as required.
- Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Uses a Continuous Improvement mindset to drive productivity and operational excellence through Six Sigma and Lean methodology.
**Minimum Requirements**
- High School Diploma or accredited GED
- Forklift Certification
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience
- 2+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2+ years of mechanical experience
- Applicants must have strong reading, math, and technical skills, and the ability to qualify on various processes and equipment in a dynamic chemical manufacturing environment.
- Applicant must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to work in outdoor, ambient temperature conditions.
- Strong Commitment to EHS, quality, and customer service
**Preferred Requirements**:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools at Greenbelt level
- Strong Commitment to EHS, quality, and customer service
- SAP Production Module experience
