Part Time Custodian

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.

Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, Custodians at the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited adhere to strict safety standards while maintaining hygiene and aesthetics of buildings for the pleasure of the occupants and travelers. They are responsible to ensure that all tasks are carried out with the health and safety of self and others being the primary focus and that health and safety policies and procedures are followed when completing tasks, including proper use of PPE and cleaning chemicals.

**Responsibilities**:
Cleaning Duties 70%
- Keep the assigned area clean as per FBCL Level of Service standards;
- Organize, plan and prioritize work with help from People Leader;
- Vacuum/sweep/mop, dust, wipe down desks/tables, chairs, cabinets, fixtures and appliances in offices, boardrooms and common areas;
- Clean/sanitize sinks, counters, mirrors, toilets, urinals, stalls and sweep/mop floors with prescribed cleaning solutions in washrooms;
- Clean windows and window sills and dispose off garbage in all areas;
- Sweep and mop stairways, wipe down handrails and glass panels;
- Vacuum and clean elevators;
- Clean equipment before putting away and launder rags and mop heads;
- Restock and organize the custodial cart at the end of shift;
- Ensure all cleaning products are properly labeled with workplace labels;
- Ensure stock rooms are left tidy and restocked at the end of shift;
- Remove snow/ice from sidewalks, entrance ways using shovels and ice melting chemicals;
- Report equipment failures and maintenance needs to Custodial Supervisor; and,
- Carry out other tasks as required and assigned.

Stocking 10%
- Prepare cleaning cart by replenishing supplies;
- Ensure paper towel and toilet paper dispensers are refilled as needed;
- Ensure soap and sanitizer dispensers are refilled as needed;
- Maintain reasonable amount of supplies in custodial closets;
- Record supplies removed from the stock rooms on the provided sheet; and,
- Report low inventory levels to the Custodial Supervisor.

Customer Service 10%
- Interact with the general public, tenants, other departments and coworkers in a courteous and professional manner, acting as ambassadors of the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd.;
- Pass on maintenance or extra custodial requests to the Custodial Supervisor without delay; and,
- Direct inquiries from tenants and travelers to the Custodial Supervisor.

Cattle Pen Cleaning 10%
- Wear prescribed PPE when working in the pen area;
- Remove dirt, debris, and animal droppings from the inspection areas utilizing shovels, brooms, squeegees, and power washer system;
- Operate power washer system following Standard Operation Procedure; and,
- Operate hydraulic actuated gate system to facilitate cleaning, following all safety procedures.

Essential Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required;
- Minimum of one year Custodial experience is required;
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time is required;
- Ability to climb, lift up to 50lbs, balance, stoop, bend and perform repetitive duties is required;
- Ability to lift and carry supplies, equipment and garbage is required;
- Time management skills and customer service skills are required;
- Ability to work well in a team environment and ability to work independently is required;
- Ability to affectively and professionally communicate with coworkers, other departments, tenants and the general public is required;
- Possession of a valid G license is required;
- Language - English essential, French is an asset; and
- Must eligible to obtain a ‘Reliability’ security clearance.

Training Required and Provided
- Custodial Equipment;
- WHMIS;
- Fire Extinguisher Training;
- FBCL policies and procedures; and,
- Half and full face respirator training.
