Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing daily environmental, health & safety operations for our North 49 Plant including:

- Engages in leadership and provides guidance in obtaining safe operations in protecting workers, contractors, visitors, and public.
- Ensures company compliance by remaining current and interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Drives prevention strategies for incident reduction through policy and continuous improvement.
- Response to regulatory and emergencies as required, leading investigations, and ensuring proper record keeping for those events of high severity potential or resulting in injury.
- Employee engagement and leadership through positive reinforcement, behavioral based observations, safety talks, and situational awareness.
- Developing a culture that proactively anticipates hazards and corrects unsafe conditions/actions.
- Administers the environmental, Health &Safety Management System including manuals, programs, compliance calendars, industrial hygiene surveys, training etc.
- Performs audits and reporting, ensuring corrective action and operational compliance.
- Partnership with Human Resources regarding disability management related to both non-work related and work-related events.
- Contractor vetting and safety management as per contractual agreements.

**Responsibilities**

**Safety Leadership**
- Lead company initiatives to develop and maintain EHS strategic direction and objectives.
- Maintain a best-in-class mind set.
- Communicates upwards, noncompliance with code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
- Primary support for plant operation, including:

- interpreting and providing guidance on policies and regulations
- Supports management and managers/supervisors
- Ensures compliance with legislative requirements and applicable standards.
- Maintains a working knowledge of Company policies, ensuring duty to self and others.
- Performs risk assessments and applies hierarchy of controls.
- Facilitates investigation processes, provides training, and support.
- Proactively identifies gaps and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Fosters a positive attitude towards the Company and EHS duties.
- Provides a safe environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Engages and supports Company Health and Wellness initiatives.
- Participates in necessary training e.g. First Aid/CPR.
- Supports MOC and capital requests for sites of responsibility.
- Mentors junior EHS professionals
- Maintains applicable professional designations.
- Leads by example.

**Performance Management**
- Lead Performance management with the operations
- Biannual and Annual Safety reviews
- Prepares and maintains risk registers and identifies training competencies.

**Employee Engagement and Communication**
- Develop and execute safety communication strategies.
- Be visible and approachable to employees.
- Ensure execution of all Company programs (awards and recognition, etc)

**Tactical**
- Implement/facilitate safety strategy for all sites of responsibility through action planning.
- Daily plant walks and observations, engage team leaders to ensure accurate and effective understanding of programs and practices.
- Supports strategic direction, development of policies, procedures, protocols, and practices.
