Safe Harbour Society has opportunities within our Medically Supported Detox for an Advanced Care Paramedic to work full time and a part time position.

Safe Harbour Society is a non-profit organization that strives to meet the needs of persons with addictions. We currently operate a 20 bed medically supported detox offering an elevated level of care and the outcomes for persons with addictions seeking help. This is a perfect opportunity for an enthusiastic Advanced Care Paramedic to contribute to the ongoing development and growth of our unit.

We are looking for Advanced Care Paramedic's that believe in the established vision and core values of Safe Harbour and are driven by our mission of providing spaces of welcome and connection.

Reporting to the Detox Manager or designate the Advanced Care Paramedic provides care to guests with substance abuse/co-occurring disorders through all stages of a 7 - 10 day detox.

**This is a Full Time and Part Time position - 12 hour shifts covering both days and nights. Note : These are 1 year Temporary Positions with a possible extension.**

**Qualifications**:

- Advanced Care Paramedic diploma or a field appropriate to the position
- Certifications or licenses appropriate to the position
- Minimum of 3 years practice and experience in an appropriate field
- Current Clean Vulnerable Sector Check
- Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people of different ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations
- Ability to maintain positive professional boundaries without imposing personal judgements and expectations on families and patients
- Ability to make decisions in complex situations that could be immediately dangerous to life or health where no established guidelines exist
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Ability to work under extreme pressure and handle tense and stressful situations
- Demonstrated time management skills
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Knowledge of safe patient lifting/handling techniques
- Proven knowledge of case management processes and procedures
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification

The Advanced Care Paramedic's, under the directions of the Nursing Lead/Program Manager, will primarily be responsible to advise patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness, and accident prevention within a Medically Assisted Detox Facility. This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care and support in consultation with individuals. This role will also respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, religion, and culture; their right to privacy and dignity.

Abilities will include but are not limited to use of effective interpersonal skills to communicate complex and sensitive information; maintain work area; monitor patient progress, keeping records, charts, reports, etc. up to date; provide a consistently high standard of care and support for patients; provide direct and comprehensive care and assistance to patients with specialized and complex needs; collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care and support in consultation with individuals; schedule or conduct follow-up meetings/appointments with patients, assess, evaluate, plan and revise patient care/support; encourage open communication among patients when discussing issues, problems, or concerns; Ensure commitment to quality, patient safety, and risk management initiatives; provide education and counselling to patients; provide ongoing advocacy and support to patients; provide timely and astute information to other members of the team, as well as to individuals under direct care; demonstrate cooperation among other staff members in order to ensure efficiency of care and support for patients; protect the health and safety of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately; perform responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable federal, provincial, and municiple legislation; prepare and submit accurate reports, records, and charts; practice the strength of asking for help; other duties as assigned.
