In Home Recreation Coordinator

**Position Summary**:
The In Home Recreation Coordinator will provide clients the opportunity to participate in a range of activities that are stimulating, therapeutic, and socially engaging in their own home. The In Home Recreation Coordinator will match trained volunteers with clients to engage in meaningful activity.
**Job Status**:
Full-Time 1 year contract (with possibility of renewal), 37.5 hours per week, occasional evening and weekend work required.
**Organizational Overview**:
The Alzheimer Society of Muskoka actively supports families and individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. We advocate for and provide support services, education, and funding for research for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
**Location**:Muskoka Parry Sound
**Required Qualifications**:
- Valid driver’s license and access to own vehicle
- Completed post-secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation and/or Recreation and Leisure Diploma
- Recruitment and selection experience
- Experience building relationships with volunteers, staff and community partners
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Training and public speaking experience
- At least 3 years’ experience working with persons with dementia and/or their families
- Knowledge and working understanding of Microsoft Suite of software
- Experience working with the client reporting and volunteer databases (Penelope an asset)
- Flexibility to represent the Society at events and programs, some of which occur outside of regular work hours
- Vulnerable Sector Police Screening
- Valid First Aid and CPR
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- R/TRO or CTRS desired
**Specific Job Responsibilities**:
- Provide orientation, training, and feedback for In Home Recreation volunteers
- Process client referrals and facilitate matching process with appropriate volunteer and family
- Create recreation intervention plans for volunteers to execute with matched client
- Use a holistic approach, providing activities in keeping with the individual’s cultural diversity, recreational interests, activities of daily living with the therapeutic recreation domains as the overarching goal
- Provide leisure education for care partners and other health care professionals involved in client case
- Update In Home Recreation Training as new education, research and knowledge is gained
- Execute In Home Recreation Training to volunteers monthly
- Purchase activity items for client and volunteer visits
- Maintain an inventory list of the in-home kit for clients
- Manage caseload of volunteers who are matched with clients
- Orientate, train and supervise volunteers who are matched with clients
- Provide activities for volunteers to complete with clients on a weekly basis
- Manage the caseload of clients assigned
- Serve as a liaison to the families, providing them with information about the Alzheimer Society Muskoka Partners and its services, and directing them to the appropriate supports
- Organize and plan for monthly team meetings to discuss caseload and provide an information exchange with volunteers of the In-Home Recreation Program
- Ongoing communication with the Executive Director
- Work closely with clinical staff for ongoing assessment of clients for In Home Recreation program
**Evaluation & Other Responsibilities**
- Annual performance review with Executive Director
- Work with program team to continually evaluate the In Home Recreation program by soliciting ongoing feedback and evaluation from clients in the program
- Regular program evaluation for client, care partner and volunteers
- Always represent the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka in a professional manner, treating all internal and external clients with respect and dignity
- Always act in the best interests of the Society
- Maintain an organized and productive office environment
- Attend monthly program meetings and follow up with clinical staff as required
- Liaise with community partners in conjunction with the program, education, and fund development staff
- As an employee of a non-profit organization, you are expected to participate in fund development activities as required
- Other related duties as requested by the supervisor/ED
**Immediate Supervisor**:Executive Director
**Working Conditions**:
Office Setting / Remote work from home. General office duties, typing, filing, occasional lifting / carrying 25lbs, reaching, bending, walking, sitting, and standing (standing desk provided). Freedom of movement throughout the day. Some travel required.
**Infection Prevention and Control Considerations**:
This job will require wearing proper PPE and completing education in proper Public Health guidelines surrounding PPE and Covid-19 protocols
