At Trade Winds to Success Training Society, we are dedicated to empowering Indigenous individuals in Alberta by providing pre-trades training and employment services for graduates. We are currently seeking a dedicated Apprenticeship Retention Officer to join our team in Edmonton.
The Apprenticeship Retention Officer will be responsible for securing and sustaining employment opportunities for graduates who have successfully completed Trade Winds to Success (TWTS) programs.
In line with our mission, we actively collaborate with funders and various stakeholders to connect students and graduates with employment opportunities. The responsibilities include:
- Referring job-ready students to job opportunities that align working conditions with the client’s personal goals, such as union vs. non-union and work location (in town, camp, etc.).
- Coordinating with union partners to secure employment opportunities for graduates.
- Coaching students on self-marketing, job search strategies, and techniques.
- Providing ongoing employment support to students during their training, including participation in student progression meetings and case management.
- Creating action plans for employment retention in collaboration with students and employers.
- Assisting with the Career Skills Development portion of foundational training as needed.
- Following up with employers regarding the status of referred students and addressing any concerns that arise.
- Recording employer contact information in a database and maintaining accurate records of all employee referrals and interactions for future analysis.
- Conducting follow-ups to gather employment results at 30, 60, and 90 days.
**KEY COMPETENCIES**:
The Apprenticeship Retention Officer should possess several key competencies that are essential for the role. These include:
- Dedication to inspiring and assisting Indigenous students in securing employment and apprenticeship opportunities within the trades.
- A deep understanding of the nature of trades employment opportunities and what employers expect.
- Excellent employer networking skills.
- Ability to effectively promote Trade Winds programs and services to potential employers.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- 1-2 years of experience working with Indigenous students or within Indigenous communities.
- 1-2 years of experience providing career or employment counseling.
- A diploma or degree in social work, career counselling, or equivalent professional experience.
- Knowledge of Alberta's Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Education Act.
**REMUNERATION & BENEFITS**:
This full-time position will be working at our office in Edmonton from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The salary range for this role is between $54,000 to $59,000 annually. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support overall well-being and work-life balance. These benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
