**Title**:Challenger Baseball Coach
**Reports to**: Director, Access & Awareness
**Status**:Part-Time Contract
**Schedule**: 1 hour - Saturdays from 10:00am - 11:00am at Variety Village (indoor / outdoor season

opportunities) plus 1 hour for set up and take down
Additional hours for Games/tournaments, some travel may be required.

Variety Village has had and continues to have a profound impact on the lives of people with disabilities and
their families. Through adaptive sport and recreation programming, outreach and education, Variety
promotes inclusion and healthy living through adapted physical activity. Variety Village is seeking several
qualified Lifeguards to join our team of talented staff.

**_Summary: _**
Variety has partnered with Jay’s Care and Challenger Baseball and are seeking a trained coach to lead our new
program initiative. Challenger Baseball is an adaptive baseball program for individuals with intellectual and/or
physical disabilities.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Assist with promotion and recruitment of additional players with varied abilities to join the program

and teams.
- Coaching youth and adults with disabilities in the game of Baseball while developing the knowledge of

the game, confidence, game strategies and skills;
- Utilize challenger baseball curriculum ideas with your experience and leadership to introduce games,

skills and activities.
- Build a challenger baseball network of community, clubs/contacts.
- Establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with the athletes, parents and volunteers

involved in the program;
- Creating an environment that is inclusive and supportive;
- Communicating with athletes/parents/ guardians, volunteers;
- Coordinating the participation in tournaments, and the yearly Challenger Baseball National Jamboree

at the Rogers Centre;
- Handling other duties as assigned.

**Key Competencies and Qualifications**:

- Challenger Baseball coach training completion.
- Baseball coaching experience with children/ youth of all abilities.
- Leadership, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work as a team and provide leadership.
- Passion for the vision and mission of Variety Village.
- Participating in Variety’s Orientation program and adhere to established organizational policies and

protocols.
