Job Summary

The Manager, Academic Innovation & Accreditation, in collaboration with the Associate Dean, Academic and Executive Director, Strategy and Planning, conceptualizes plans and provides leadership to the Departments and Schools in the Faculty of Applied Science. As the primary point of contact within the Dean’s Office, this role supports academic innovation through curriculum management, program development and accreditation management. The Manager is responsible for working with faculty members to lead the planning and execution of curriculum projects and programs from initial conception to completion. Working closely with the Associate Dean-Academic and the Executive Director Strategy and Planning this role will review early concept proposals and ideas to determine which program proposals should move forward, and coordinate UBC resources to support development. The Manager is also responsible for Faculty level program management and will provide advice and guidance on program evaluations, conduct market assessment, identify barriers, and assess financial impacts collaborating with faculty and staff across Applied Science and the University.

This role will also manage the accreditation process of the Faculty of Applied Science’s Engineering departments and is responsible for managing the accreditation review process, advising departments and programs on the accreditation review process; developing, implementing and evaluating processes and procedures to ensure effective and efficient management of the accreditation process for the Faculty.

Organizational Status

A key professional team member of the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Applied Science reporting directly to the Executive Director, Strategy and Planning and working closely with and under the broad direction of the Associate Dean, Academic. Works cooperatively with Dean’s Office staff, Faculty Departments, Schools and programs to ensure all objectives, projects and timelines are met.

Liaises regularly with the Heads and Directors of the Faculty's Departments, Schools and Programs as well as individual faculty members.

Work Performed

Program Development and Management

Manages strategic projects/initiatives integral to the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs for the Departments and Schools in the Faculty of Applied Science. Responsibilities include:
- Managing the planning, development and implementation of comprehensive academic initiatives including non-credit certificate and undergraduate and graduate programs.- Providing strategy and decision support including advising on complex academic project plans, defining project objectives, timelines, and resource allocation, and devising market strategies. Working closely with faculty and senior leaders in APSC to lead projects and provide advice and recommendations. Consulting with Associate Dean, Academic and Executive Director on the viability of programs/initiatives as required- Writing, reviewing and analyzing complex documents for ministry-level approval- Managing program evaluations including the establishment of performance metrics and creation of complex reporting on student enrollment, market assessments, and the financial impact of programs; analyzing, and presenting data to senior leaders- Conducting complex analysis to identify barriers that may impact program implementation or sustained success, and advising and collaborating with faculty and staff to recommend possible solutions- Acting as an advisor on the development of curriculum proposals by working closely with faculty members on course and program proposal development, coordinating the flow of all proposals and consultation requests and managing standard curricular language and t
