**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Director, Academic Quality provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and collaborative direction across Langara College's academic quality initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring the integration and advancement of institutional goals through new program development, program review, curriculum development, teaching excellence, quality assurance, and education technology. Overseeing three key units: Academic Quality Assurance (AQA), the Teaching and Curriculum Development Centre (TCDC), and Education Technology (EdTech), the Director leads the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and systems that support and foster academic innovation, excellence, continuous improvements, integrity, strategic planning, and risk assessment and mitigation.
As a champion for academic excellence, the Director works in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the relevance of college programming, to uphold high standards in teaching and learning, and to ensure regulatory compliance with institutional policies, strategic priorities and plans, and the requirements of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
**Responsibilities**:
i. General
- Lead and support a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and integrity across academic quality assurance, curriculum development, and educational technology.
- Serve as an institutional expert and advocate on academic quality, curriculum design, and digital learning innovation.
- Act as a key liaison with the Ministry (e.g. DQAB) and accrediting or regulatory bodies regarding academic quality standards and reporting.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing across departments and disciplines.
- Performs other related duties and/or ad-hoc projects
ii. Strategic Oversight and Operational Management
- Academic Units: Provide strategic leadership, support, direction and accountability to the three units (TCDC, Ed Tech and AQA) including all direct reports, to ensure effectiveness and alignment with Langara’s Academic and Strategic Plans.
- TCDC: Collaborate with deans, chairs, and faculty to significantly advance curricular design and innovations in teaching practice (pedagogies), to align with the Langara’s Strategic Priorities.
- Ed Tech: Support instructional faculty/staff to find, test, implement, and integrate innovative learning tools and technologies that enhance the learning experience.
- AQA: Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of quality assurance processes/audits for academic programs, including cyclical reviews and program assessments, ensuring data informed, effective and collaborative processes (including deans, faculty and external reviewers/community stakeholders) yielding continuous improvement, relevance, compliance and implementation. Advance the Credential Streamlining and Guided Pathways projects.
- Future Direction: Monitor trends in post-secondary education, including policy changes, pedagogical innovations, and emerging educational technologies.
- Policy: Assess, advise and guide/direct the development, review and implementation of policies and procedures related to academic quality and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with internal and external requirements.
- EDI: Support college-wide initiatives in Indigenization, internationalization, accessibility, and decolonization through quality-enhancing strategies.
iii. Budgeting, Resource Allocation, and Financial Management
- Develop and manage annual budgets for each unit, ensuring efficient and strategic allocation of resources.
- Align budget planning with strategic priorities, including faculty support, technology infrastructure, and academic innovation projects.
- Monitor and report on financial performance; identify opportunities for cost-efficiency, revenue generation, or external funding.
- Ensure accountability for spending within each unit in accordance with college financial policies and procedures.
