**GENERAL SUMMARY**
Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, the Director of Corporate Administration is a dynamic leader
who is responsible for the statutory duties of the Corporate Officer under s.148 of the Community Charter. The Director
ensures the delivery of services to the organization related to Records Management, Council support, Freedom of
Information and Protection of Privacy, Election Administration, and general customer service in accordance with
numerous statutes, bylaws and policies.
The Director is responsible for all activities of the department and provides leadership at both the strategic and
operational levels to the Corporate Administration team. The Director is a key member of the leadership team and
works closely with leaders across the organization and with external legal professionals. The Director ensures that
corporate administration functions are carried out and adhered in accordance with the Local Government Act,
Community Charter, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, several other relevant Provincial and Federal
pieces of legislation, and District of Squamish policies, practices, bylaws and procedures.
**KEY RESPSONSIBILITLES**
**Strategic Leadership**
Leads the development and updating of departmental strategic projects/action plans involving District
statutory and legislative functions.
Assists with the development and updating of strategic projects/action plans from other internal
departments involving corporate administration.
Prioritizes and directs all Corporate Administration departmental activities (Council meeting
administration, local government elections, FOIPPA requests, records management activities, policy
administration, bylaw administration, legal coordination) to ensure alignment with the District's
Strategic Plan, Annual Departmental Objectives, and relevant legislation.
Participates and collaborates with leaders across the organization to ensure legislative considerations
are reflected in organizational strategy, inter-departmental collaboration, policy development and
long-term financial planning.
**Department Leadership**
Leads the development and enhancement of standards, policies, and procedures to position the
Corporate Administration Department as a leader in the organization.
Ensures that legislated requirements, corporate policies, procedures, priorities, and exceptional
customer service are conducted and carried out by the Corporate Administration Department within
the organization's and Council's vision for the community.
Develops annual department budgets for consideration in the Annual Five-Year Financial Plan,
monitors annual departmental spending and provides variance reporting to Council and senior
leadership.
Manages (prioritizes, directs and monitors) Corporate Administration staff work plans on a weekly,
monthly and annual basis.
Provides daily leadership and guidance to Corporate Administration staff for Council engagement
(reports and presentations), records management, FOIPPA request response, consultant engagement,
and complaint resolution.
Oversees hiring, ongoing staff growth and development (coaching, mentoring, training opportunities)
and employee development reviews of department staff.
Maximizes employee engagement through recognition, team building and effective communication.
**ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Acts in the absence of the General Manager as required.
Provides procedural support to Council during all Council and Committee meeting formats.
Acts as legal liaison to the District Departments on an ongoing basis as required.
Leads, coordinates, and participates in multi-disciplinary project teams and District committees.
Attends meetings as required with Council; senior leadership; School District; Provincial and Federal
Government; First Nations; and various boards, community organizations and stakeholders.
Reviews, prepares, and updates bylaws and policies and provides advice to other municipal
departments.
Directs and be responsible for municipal record keeping, including the recommendation and
implementation of new systems.
Acts as the Information and Privacy Head.
Acts as Secretary to the Board of Variance.
Directs and administers all local government elections and referenda.
