The Department of Geography is embarking on the development of a new professional program in Geospatial Analytics for Climate Action. As part of this effort, we are seeking to hire a Geospatial Technology Specialist who will be responsible for developing and delivering educational content focused on geospatial technologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and drone operation. The specialist will assist with the design and implementation of these micro credential programs that provide learners with flexible, accessible training opportunities aimed at enhancing skills and knowledge in these areas. **The salary range for this position is**: - **Recruitment range: $79,376- $87,51**8 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. - **Performance range: $103,243** salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. - Job Summary **Mandate**: The Department of Geography is embarking on the development of a new professional program in Geospatial Analytics for Climate Action. As part of this effort, we are seeking to hire a Geospatial Technology Specialist who will be responsible for developing and delivering educational content focused on geospatial technologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and drone operation. The specialist will assist with the design and implementation of these micro credential programs that provide learners with flexible, accessible training opportunities aimed at enhancing skills and knowledge in these areas. **Objectives**: - Develop and assist with the delivery of multiple micro-credential courses on geospatial technologies. - Strengthen ties between the Department of Geography and government/industry partners. - Enhance learning and skill-development opportunities for students. - Job Requirements This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline, plus minimum 3 years of relevant experience Preference given for experience the geospatial technology sector. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. **Knowledge, skills, and abilities include**: - Experience in drone operations, including flight planning for mapping missions, ground control procedures, multiple sensor configuration. - Experience processing photogrammetric and LiDAR data from drone sensors for the purpose of developing data and map products. - Demonstrated ability to develop and assist with the delivery of professional micro-credentials on the use of geospatial technologies. - Ability to schedule and perform maintenance on drone and RTK equipment. - Experience with purchasing of geospatial technologies including drones, RTK equipment, and geospatial processing software. - Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment. - Knowledge of current labour market conditions and trends in the area of geospatial technologies (e.g. GIS, remote sensing, mapping with drones). - Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes. - Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment. **Territory Acknowledgement**: We acknowledge and respect the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the university stands, and the Lək̓ʷəŋən and WSÁNEĆ Peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. **What UVic Offers**: To learn more click here
