**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provide technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable provincial, and MCL environmental, safety, and health regulations.
- Anticipate the needs of clients and provide a high level of service by ensuring effective processes are in place and providing safety expertise to help facilitate health and safety decisions.
- Champion health and safety initiatives, processes, procedures, and monitor/coach for appropriate behaviors/attitudes.
- Work closely with MCL employees, supervisors, and managers to impart the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize process and occupational safety hazards.
- Conduct regular field visits to worksites to ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained and enforced.
- Participate in Pre-Job, Daily Tailboard, and Weekly Safety Meetings while at job sites, with a specific focus on input/feedback on Job Hazard Analysis quality and completeness.
- Participate in planned inspections and make recommendations for improvement and mitigation.
- Perform administrative and clerical duties within the Health and Safety Department.
- Collect and communicate health and safety information back to MCL’s main office and Health and Safety Manager.
- Provide health and safety orientation and training.
- Participate in/support the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Track emerging regulatory changes, industry trends and issues for the purpose of making recommendations.
- Conduct compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of MCL and all applicable codes are followed.
- Maintain safety documentation and records to meet regulatory requirements as well as to provide data for problem solving and decision making related to individual job health and safety performance.
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
- Conduct required safety reporting, preparation of monthly safety statistics and trending, and present findings to management team.
- Liaise with contractors and management to ensure business needs are understood and met.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project goals are adequately communicated; and
- Conduct periodic onsite safety audits and inspections of work being performed on projects to ensure safety standards and local regulations are followed by construction and inspection personnel at all times.

**Skills and Qualifications**
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class G driver’s license.
- Computer proficiency is required—must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel.
- Technical competency and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, as well as work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments.
- Possess leadership skills to act as a role model, promoting a positive influence on the work of others through demonstration of technical expertise and effective interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours.
- Capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and working efficiently and reliably.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.

- Must have strong technical safety expertise (risk management, safety management systems, loss control management, hazard identification, incident investigations, emergency preparedness and response).
- Experience with the development of policies and procedures.

**Working Conditions**
- Most work will be performed in the field, with some work performed in an office environment.
- Must be willing and able to travel and work at remote project sites for extended periods of time. Accommodation’s will be provided as needed.
- Able to work outdoors in inclement conditions as required.
- Must be willing to work extended hours when required.

**Education/Experience**
- High school or equivalent (required);
- Post-secondary education in health and safety is an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario, Manitoba, and OH&S Legislature.
- Previous construction and/or health and safety experience and knowledge is preferred.
- Experience in operating heavy equipment

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
