**Working for the Dean of Students**

The Dean of Students' Office supports all students in the pursuit of their academic success. We collaborate with faculties and other services to provide a positive student experience. The Learning Strategies unit within this office provides academic strategies and instructions to students in all university programs and at all levels. We accomplish this goal with a staff compliment of professional Learning Specialists well versed in industry-best learning strategies, and with empathy and understanding to our students as we adapt to each student's academic program requirements, inter-sectional identities, and educational and cultural backgrounds. We care about and want to support our students in what they need to be academically successful.

**Position**

Reporting to the Director of Learning Strategies, the Team Lead will provide strength in operational management to this newly created position. The Team Lead will continue the creation of and be responsible for maintaining and coordinating policies, procedures, programs, and related financial and other technical tasks. Combining these responsibilities with supervising student-facing and administrative staff, the Team Lead will influence Learning Strategies' direction as we collectively strive toward our vision and team targets. Last, the Team Lead will interact with other units/departments and services to help realize the Dean of Students' Office shared goals.

**Duties**

The Team Lead will be responsible for:

- Operational (project and program) management, oversight and decision-making
- Operational policy/procedure responsibility/coordination/implementation and maintenance
- Office Management (administration, financial, technical)
- Supervision of Learning Strategies team staff
- Collaboration with Learning Strategies Team and Director, other DoS units, and community stakeholders

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Minimum 3-5 yrs experience with Operations Management (and project/program and financial management)
- Experience in a supervisory role with operational-related skills and with experience managing employees within a large, complex, unionized environment (prior U of A experience an asset)
- Post-secondary degree in a related field relevant to post-secondary student learning, financial, operational management and/or supervision. Examples include (BA/MA, BSC/MSc, Business (HRM, Finance, PMP, Mgmnt etc.))
- Demonstrated leadership, diplomacy and ability to advocate for adherence to approved projects/programs, policies and procedures
- Superior organizational and time management skills with the proven ability to efficiently manage and prioritize multiple tasks to meet competing deadlines
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to develop and deliver professional presentation(s) to a diverse audience(s) in formal and informal settings to both clients and staff
- Excellent solution-seeking skills with the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff, students, and other service providers using a collaborative team-based approach to solve individual and team issues
- Resourcefulness - finds way to complete tasks and solve challenges
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with staff and both internal / external clients at all organizational levels
