**Your Mission**
In this key position, you’ll ensure our worksites maintain the highest safety standards while guiding teams toward a shared goal: zero accidents and maximum productivity. You’ll be the go-to expert for risk mitigation, training, incident response, and regulatory compliance.
**Core Responsibilities**
- **Risk Assessment and Management**:
- Perform daily site inspections, spotting and addressing potential hazards early.
- Develop proactive measures for high-risk activities (working at heights, electrical operations, challenging weather conditions).
- Champion a prevention-first mindset, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
- **Regulatory Compliance**:
- Ensure all site operations align with Ontario safety standards (Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development).
- Keep everyone up to speed with **Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)** requirements and **Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)** guidelines.
- **Training and Awareness**:
- Lead daily toolbox talks to engage teams in proactive safety discussions.
- Coach employees on safe practices, emergency procedures, and proper PPE usage.
- Spread crucial information on high-voltage hazards and guarantee clear, consistent communication across the worksite.
- **Worksite Monitoring**:
- Oversee high-risk tasks like elevated work, proximity to live lines, and heavy machinery operation.
- Encourage best practices and maintain compliance with critical safety distances.
- **Incident Management**:
- Respond swiftly to accidents or near-miss situations, ensuring everyone’s well-being.
- Investigate root causes, then propose and implement lasting preventive solutions.
- Document incidents thoroughly and share reports with relevant stakeholders.
- **Documentation and Follow-Up**:
- Keep all inspection, training, and incident records up to date.
- Secure and post necessary permits, maintaining transparency and accountability.
- Attend client meetings to provide safety updates and strengthen ongoing partnerships.
**Additional Responsibilities**
- **Design and implement** innovative health and safety programs tailored to unique site needs.
- **Conduct regular audits** to uphold or exceed regulatory and corporate standards.
- **Serve as the main contact** for external safety inspectors and assessors.
- **Collaborate** closely with project managers and supervisors to drive a zero-incident culture.
- **Support and mentor** on-site safety officers, ensuring consistent standards and strategies.
**About You**
- **Educational Background**: Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- **Certification**: Health and Safety Coordinator (HSC) or equivalent.
- **Additional Credentials** (at least one):
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
- Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
- Gold Seal Certificate (GSC) for Construction Safety Coordinator (CSC)
- National Safety Officer (NSO)
- **Experience**: 5+ years in a health and safety role, preferably on construction sites.
- **Expert Knowledge**: Solid grasp of Ontario’s health and safety legislation.
- **Leadership**: Proven ability to motivate teams and champion a robust safety culture.
- **Communication Skills**: Confident presenter and problem-solver, adept at working under pressure.
