The **Director of Studies (DOS)** is a senior leadership role responsible for the academic integrity, performance, and compliance of IH Vancouver’s programs. Reporting directly to the **CEO or designate**, the DOS oversees all academic programming, ensures adherence to internal and external standards, and leads the academic team in delivering an outstanding student and teacher experience.
**Position Summary**:
The Director of Studies is responsible for the design, implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of the academic programs at IH Vancouver and IH Career College. The DOS manages academic staff, monitors instructional quality, ensures compliance with IHWO, Languages Canada, TESL Canada, and PTRIU standards, and provides leadership in teacher training, curriculum development, and student success.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. Academic Oversight & Compliance**
- Ensure that **IHWO Quality Standards**, **Languages Canada**, **TESL Canada**, and **PTRIU** academic requirements are fully met, maintained, and documented.
- Maintain rigorous academic documentation, including student attendance, progression reports, and teacher files for audit and accreditation readiness.
**2. Curriculum & Program Development**
- Oversee design, implementation, and review of academic and career programs.
- Align curriculum delivery with communicative, student-centred, and outcome-driven teaching approaches.
- Adapt syllabi and materials to meet evolving student needs and changing market demands.
- Lead curriculum innovation, development of new programs, and resource sharing initiatives among teaching staff.
- Oversee both **ESL** and **Career College** program delivery, ensuring academic coherence and relevance.
**3. Teacher Management & Professional Development**
- Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate teachers and substitutes.
- Conduct regular in-class observations with constructive feedback and coaching.
- Plan and lead **monthly in-service teacher development workshops**, including external expert sessions.
- Maintain a current teacher database, sub list, and schedules to optimize class coverage and resource use.
- Encourage professional growth opportunities including **CELTA**, **DELTA**, and TESL Canada certification alignment.
**4. Student Services & Progress Monitoring**
- Manage student **orientation, placement, progress tracking**, and **End-of-Level** assessments.
- Oversee the **Satisfactory Student Progress Policy**, including probation procedures and tutorial interventions.
- Maintain accurate student records, issue certificates, and coordinate student feedback and exit interviews.
- Promote a supportive and responsive academic culture, ensuring individual attention to student needs.
**5. Scheduling & Class Management**
- Design and maintain class schedules aligned with student enrollment and teacher availability.
- Balance class sizes and levels to ensure optimal learning environments and efficient resource allocation.
- Oversee weekly and term exam schedules, ensuring consistency and quality in assessments.
- Maintain updated class rosters and oversee communication regarding class placements and changes.
**6. Administrative & Technical Support**
- Provide technical support to staff and students for educational software and classroom equipment.
- Report facility issues and coordinate with the property manager to maintain a safe and functional learning environment.
- Support accreditation and compliance audits with documentation and reporting as needed.
**Qualifications & Skills**:
- **Minimum 5 years** of ESL/EFL teaching experience, with at least **2 years in an academic management role**.
- Recognized **TESL/TESOL certification** (e.g., CELTA); DELTA or equivalent diploma preferred.
- Experience with **Cambridge Assessment English** programs, including **CELTA/DELTA administration**.
- Familiarity with **Languages Canada**, **TESL Canada**, and **PTRIU** academic standards.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a commitment to student and teacher support.
- Experience designing and managing both **language** and **career college programs** is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages are an asset.
- Ability to teach in both ESL and post-secondary academic/vocational settings as needed.
