**Geerlinks Home Hardware Building Centre & Design Gallery** **YARD PERSONNEL / GENERAL LABOUR / DRYWALL CARRIER** **LUMBER YARD** **Compensation**:$16 per hour + Commission **PRIMARY FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE** Geerlinks Home Hardware Building Centre & Design Gallery (‘GHHBC’) is currently seeking a Drywall Carrier & Delivery Support Associate. Our Yard personnel load and unload materials and store them in the designated areas as instructed. This is accomplished by using a variety of equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, lumber carts, etc. which comes with proper training. Yard personnel will greet and serve customers and therefore, need to be familiar with inventory, prices, returns and exchange policies. This is an entry level position where the incumbent will receive on-the-job training and will, under general supervision, carry drywall from storage to active construction site; may carry by hand, use a mechanical cart or forklift as necessary; loads and unloads drywall from our delivery vehicles. **DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES** - Actively seek out and offer a friendly greeting throughout the Lumber Yard and Retail Store - Deliver Drywall and building materials to customers - Assist all customers to the best of your ability and always seek help when needed - Load and unload materials and building supplies - Deliver product to customers - Take all necessary safety precautions when handling freight, tools, and equipment - Store material in the appropriate locations throughout the Lumber Yard - Identify and assist customers with advice, information, and/or help in gathering and loading orders - Keep the yard clean and the inventory neat and orderly - Be familiar with the locations(s) of all inventory and equipment - Be familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, including forklift, lumber cart, pallet jack, banding machine, etc. - Be aware of theft and take action, in line with company policy, to report or discourage it - Restock lumber bins, sheds and other areas when they are depleted and as instructed - Receive incoming merchandise - Check incoming merchandise against orders or invoices, identify damaged goods, shortages, and back-orders - Report any shortages, damaged goods, and back-orders to your Supervisor - Make suggestions for rule, policy, and/or procedure changes when you think that such changes will improve efficiency, morale, profits, sales, etc. - Must come to work on time and be ready to work when your shift begins - Must arrive to work with proper Home Hardware apparel including safety boots and high-visibility clothing/shirt - Work on any special projects/additional duties assigned by your Supervisor/Management, after determining their priority in relation to your other duties - Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected. **EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED** - 1+ years of prior retail or industry related experience is beneficial - G Driving License with clean driving abstract - Possess a high regard for safety in the workplace - Being physically fit is an asset as this is a labour intensive role - Able to lift at least 70 pounds unassisted - Able to lift at least 100 pounds with assistance - Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays - Excellent communication skills - A ‘can-do’ attitude with a desire and willingness to learn is an asset - Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base with company support - Ability to work cooperatively in team atmosphere **WORKING RELATIONSHIPS** - Reports directly to Yard Manager > General Manager > Owners. **Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent **Salary**: From $17.00 per hour **Benefits**: - Company events - Dental care - Discounted or free food - Employee assistance program - Flexible schedule - On-site parking - Paid time off - Store discount - Vision care Flexible Language Requirement: - French not required Schedule: - Day shift - Monday to Friday - Night shift - Weekends as needed Supplemental pay types: - Commission pay COVID-19 considerations: Sanitizer availability upon entry, curbside pickup available, common surfaces are sanitized regularly.
