***:Under general supervision, the Technical Heavy Equipment Assistant will perform a variety of duties, including assisting with the diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of light and heavy equipment powered by gas, diesel, and/or alternative fuels. The incumbent will operate heavy and light equipment, trucks, and other equipment necessary for completion of projects; perform road maintenance and repair tasks, as assigned; may perform labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment**.**

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Uses a variety of diagnostic equipment to determine sources of problems and to ensure proper adjustment and operation of engines, emissions, hydraulics, etc.
- Uses online technical resources, service literature, and diagnostic software.
- Maintains and repairs shop equipment and cleans shop area.
- Provides input on vehicle specifications and the purchase of shop tools and equipment. Advanced levels may provide guidance and conduct the procurement, including writing specifications, sourcing vehicles and equipment, preparing staff reports, etc.
- Responds to emergency breakdowns; may make temporary or permanent repairs in the field.
- Maintains repair records; keeps labor, equipment, and materials records; prepares and submits work orders and reports.
- Inspect, repair, and replace defective or worn parts, such as bearings, pistons, and gears - Disassemble and reassemble heavy equipment and components.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Basic record-keeping principles and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of diagnostic and repair equipment, including
- hand, shop, power, and computerized tools.
- Knowledge of standard safety work practices.
- Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment with skill.
- Ability to maintain shop and repair records.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:

- 0 - 2 Years of relevant work experience.
