**About the job**: In this role, you will:

- Research and monitor a high volume of emerging issues and requests
- Lead the research, assessment and development of regional communication materials such as information notes, background materials, speaking notes and briefing materials often under tight timeframes
- Review and edit correspondence prepared by other staff, before forwarding for approval of senior executives or elected officials
- Coordinate special events in the region
- Work effectively with regional, Assistant Deputy Ministers Office and Communications Branch staff, preparing documents such as media responses, information requests, notes, presentations, etc.

**Mandatory**:
**Communications and issues management expertise**:

- You can anticipate, identify, and advise management on contentious issues, public opinion trends, and their implications for the ministry, while recommending strategic actions.
- You have proven written communication skills in preparing high quality communication products, and briefing materials for senior executives, political staff, media and other stakeholders.
- You can use tact and diplomacy to liaise with politicians, municipal officials and other stakeholders to build partnerships and resolve issues.
- You can use your public and media relations skills to prepare responses.

**Interpersonal skills**:

- You have interpersonal and oral communication skills to work effectively within a team and respond diplomatically on sensitive and contentious issues (including occasionally political staff and the media).

**Business knowledge and skills**:

- You can coordinate and formulate information on a wide range of ministry issues and initiatives.
- You have the ability to understand the decision making process, protocols, legislative rules, and relevant legislation and regulations (such as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
- You can use your negotiation skills to respond to ministry issues.

**Analytical and problem-solving skills**:

- You can research, investigate and assess relevance of information, identify key issues, and determine appropriate action.
- You can analyze incoming correspondence and review/edit correspondence prepared for minister/senior management.

**Organizational Skills**:

- You have strong organizational and time management skills and the demonstrated ability to multi-task, balance competing priorities, and work under tight timelines.
