Kinsight is proud to offer Home Share as a supported living option, where a person with a disability lives with a family, couple, or a single adult in their home. Relationships are built over time with honesty, respect, clear communication, and inclusion. Compatibility is the key to successful arrangements and, when we are matching Hosts to individuals, we seek people whose personalities, lifestyles and interests will complement the people they will support. Home Share strives to respect all aspects of a person’s life, which includes meeting their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.

Being a Home Share Host is a unique role. It starts with openness to sharing life with another person and their family and friends. They welcome a new person into their home and life and over time a deepening relationship develops with the individual and his or her social circle. The qualities of Home Share Hosts include a commitment to providing a warm and supportive home, good communication and problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new things; a sense of humour helps too

Those interested must qualify to become a Home Share host. The following lists the qualifications:

- Prior training or experience related to supporting a person with a developmental disability in an individualized and person-centered way.
- This individual will need targeted support from you with his Anxiety, OCD and coping strategies
- you will need to have experience in and an understanding of this area support. He will also need your support with accessing and navigating his community.
- The Home Share host shared our commitment to fully inclusive Community Living
- The Home Share host and their families understand that this is a lifestyle choice, not a job. There is no eight-hour shift and then a return to their own families and homes. All family members must commit to the changes required to be a Host Family.
- The Home Share host and their family provide a safe home environment that meets all applicable safety standards.

Requirements include:

- Current First Aid Certification
- Criminal Record Search
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License
- Three letters of reference

The interview and assessment process consist of:

- Application
- Home study
- Autobiographical interview
- Safety check
- Matching

Various factors will be considered when matching caregivers and individuals, such as social and cultural values, location, and successful personal connection during an interview and integration process.
