Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Fleet Maintenance and Major Overhaul and the Superintendent of Fleet Maintenance and Procurement, the Vehicle Systems Supervisor is responsible for the inspection, diagnostic analysis, maintenance, repair, overhaul work, programs, refurbishment, parts administration, training, warranty administration, tow calls, and record keeping carried out in an assigned maintenance shop. The primary purpose of this work is to ensure sufficient safe and serviceable transit buses and ancillary vehicles that are available to meet the operational needs of the Transit Department.
- Responsibilities also include managing and reporting the work and performance of all staff, administering the department’s progressive discipline program, monitoring and managing employee safety, investigating and monitoring all WCB, MPI and incident reports._

**As the**Vehicle Systems Supervisor** **you will**:

- Lead the development and continuous improvement of preventive maintenance, defect repair and rebuilding/manufacturing programs.
- Establish and maintain a complete knowledge base of various mechanical and computerized systems.
- Perform administrative responsibilities which include: administering and evaluating related Bid Opportunities for equipment and material purchases, standing orders and service contracts, identifying training requirements, establishing, scheduling and monitoring training programs, identifying legislated safety and equipment operation requirements, establishing monitoring and documentation processes, liaising with authorities for inspections and code compliance, maintaining required certifications and authorizations.
- Perform technical responsibilities in a range of vehicle and shop equipment maintenance related areas, such as reading engineer drawings/specifications for fabrication and installation, Provincial MOPIA regulations, Shop and Breathing Air Systems, Paint systems technologies and practices, CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certification.
- Prioritize work flows and manages vehicle assignments to ensure availability of sufficient serviceable vehicles to meet peak operational dispatch requirements.
- Monitor the work performance of 15 to 25 permanent ATU staff engaged in vehicle preventive maintenance, defect repair and overhaul work.
- Manage warranty claims within the department by establishing the warranty process with vendors such as NFIL, Cummins Engine, Allison Transmission, Thermo King Heaters, Auxiliary Heaters, Garival, Infodev, Extreme Coatings, etc., monitoring the warranty tracking process for different vendors, submitting warranty claims and instructing personnel on the claims process, liaising with vendors to mitigate outstanding warranty issues and ensuring payments are received.
- Administer the Attendance Management Program.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and work procedures for safe operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, which may include but it is not limited to: providing input required for the development and improvement of maintenance computer information systems and liaising with Union Shop Stewards to maintain levels of communication on new developments in the workplace.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- High School graduate or equivalent training and experience.
- Journeyman trades status recognized by the Province of Manitoba in a related discipline.
- Requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role such as chargehand/lead hand, foreman or supervisor where you are leading, guiding, and overseeing employee performance.
- Supervision certificate or related certificate or other variation of related courses/training is an asset.
- Ability to deal with multiple complex issues concurrently in an effective manner.
- Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in stressful conditions, while maintaining professional conduct.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as outside agencies and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Requires a working knowledge of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Requires working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook programs.
- Working knowledge and remaining current with updates and changes to Maintenance Management Systems, Engine Software, Transmission & HVAC Software, Electrical/Electronic Systems, and Truck and Transport vehicle sub-systems are desirable.
- Working knowledge of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications and Provincial Vehicle Inspection Regulations is desirable.
- Related certificates in Provincial MOPIA, CWB, Cummins, transmission, and electrical diagnostics and repair are desirable.
