The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a multi-purpose, multi-program facility that functions as a community centre for the Deaf and as a non-profit charitable provider of services for the Deaf. The organization exists to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve.

Reporting to the Manager of Adult Education, The Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Instructor’s Assistant provides in-class assistance to individual learners, or learner groups based on materials provided by the LINC Instructor and the Literacy and Basic Skills Program (LBS) Instructor’s Assistant provides in-class assistance to individual learners or student groups based on material provided by the LBS instructors

**PRIMARY DUTIES**
-  Assist the LINC and LBS instructors with material development and classroom organization
-  Adept with technology and able to provide support to learners
-  Work one-on-one with learners requiring additional support/attention
-  Complete Occurrence Reports as necessary
-  Participate in field trips, staff meetings and other professional development opportunities
-  Competent with office and classroom technical equipment, including computers, smartboard, and iPad, contributes to maintenance and reports breakage promptly
-  Maintain open communication and trust with staff members in Adult Education and the organization
-  Ensure all learners have plans to achieve learning objectives
-  Monitors learner use of equipment to ensure it is used safely and appropriately
-  Follows the policies outlines by the organization, the Adult Education Program, guidelines of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, guidelines of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
-  Develop learning strategies for learners with instructors and manager
-  Teach and Present material to learners as required
-  Maintain professional demeanor and demonstrate dignity and fairness at all times
-  Maintain student confidentiality and engender trust

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- High School diploma
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with Deaf adult students
- Knowledge of immigration and various cultural backgrounds
- Fluent in American Sign Language
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and Deaf community
- Demonstrated English literacy and computer skills
- Experience working with adults of various cultural backgrounds
- Solid literacy, communication, interpersonal and computer skills
- Knowledge of LINC Curriculum Guidelines and Canadian Language Benchmarks
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines when faced with competing priorities
- Excellent strategic planning skills, strong problem solving skills, computer skills, adept with technology and able to provide support to learners
- Excellent multitasking skills and ability to prioritize while working with competing deadlines
- Ability to utilize diplomacy, maintain confidentiality and good judgement
- Current Health and Safety Awareness certificate, WHMIS and ability to participate in all necessary trainings
- French/LSQ an asset
