**JOB TITLE**: Indigenous Support Worker

**REPORTS TO**: Burnaby Housing & Outreach Hub Manager

The Indigenous Support Worker will be active participant and member of the Integrated case management team, and broader multi-disciplinary Housing and Outreach Program. They will specialize in guiding clients towards Indigenous based resources, as well as coordinate with other Outreach staff on culturally sensitive approaches to client engagement.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provides cultural support to Indigenous clients, including referrals to various programs supporting Indigenous based care.
- Offer support to the rest of the Integrated Case Management team regarding culturally sensitive practices for Indigenous peoples.
- Engaging the unsheltered homeless to establish rapport which will assist them in locating rental units or attending appointments within the community.
- Facilitating a full assessment of client's housing and support needs, using mandated assessment tools and templates.
- Developing a client centered plan with each client for the planning and pre-placement of the individual's tenancy and support requirements within the community.
- Monitoring the areas of daily living, financial, health, social supports, and resource acquisition.
- Maintaining accurate, up to date and appropriate records and ensuring all data is current and captured in relevant databases.
- Completes and maintains current files, case notes, daily intakes, and relevant client information.
- Completes agency required staffing forms such as time sheets, leave requests and expense claims.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Sciences with an emphasis or demonstrated history of coordinating, planning, and administering peer support and/or volunteer programs
- Minimum 1-year recent related work experience within mental health, substance use and homelessness OR - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relevant to the level of work.
- Successful clearance of a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
- A valid BC driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.
- Standard First Aid & CPR.
- Non-Violence Crisis Intervention Training
- Naloxone Training\San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training - preferred

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Demonstrated significant wisdom in areas of traditional health and wellness inclusive of demonstrated knowledge and ability to promote Indigenous protocols and ceremonies.
- Understanding of Indigenous culture, history, protocol, and issues faced by Indigenous peoples
- Ability to network and build key community relationships and partnerships.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
- Strong case management skills.
- Leadership skills.
- Ability to speak at public events and with Media.
- Knowledge of HIV, STD’s, drugs, and their impact on the community.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
