Assistant Grocery Team Lead

As the Assistant Grocery Team Lead at Sunterra Market, you are a key contributor to the success of our grocery department, supporting the Grocery Team Lead in delivering an exceptional shopping experience rooted in quality, efficiency, and service. **Duties & Responsibilities**

**Department Operations**
- Assist and support the Grocery Team Lead with all departmental functions.
- Ensure shelves and displays are fully stocked, front-facing, and visually appealing.
- Maintain accurate signage and pricing across all grocery items.
- Monitor product rotation, remove expired or damaged items, and maintain back stock in good order.
- Operate and sanitize grocery equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness of the grocery department, including sweeping floors and completing sanitization logs.
- Support inventory control, ordering, and receiving processes.

**Customer Service**
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting guests with product locations and inquiries.
- Select appropriate substitute products for customers when needed.
- Respond to department phone calls and pages promptly and professionally.
- Support a welcoming and informative shopping environment.

**Team Support & Leadership**
- Assist in training and mentoring grocery team members on product knowledge, merchandising, and service standards.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.
- Lead by example in professionalism, efficiency, and guest engagement.

**Sales & Merchandising**
- Support the execution of merchandising plans, seasonal promotions, and product launches.
- Assist with the sampling program, ensuring sample areas are clean, well-stocked, and inviting.
- Stay informed about new products and help with their placement and presentation.

**Cross-Functional Support**
- Assist with Stockperson duties as needed, including bagging groceries and walk-outs.
- Support the online grocery ordering department by fulfilling orders and shopping cross-departmentally.
- Follow and comply with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and safe work practices.

**Qualifications**
- Experience in grocery or retail operations, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of grocery merchandising, inventory practices, and food safety standards.
- Customer-focused mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- WHMIS and Food Safety Certification required (training provided by Sunterra).

**Working Conditions**
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Repetitive lifting of items up to 40 lbs (team lift required for heavier items).
- Exposure to temperature variations in storage and refrigerated areas.
- Use of ladders, box cutters, and other grocery equipment.
- May require bending, reaching, and working in tight spaces.
