Community Patrol Officer

Themis Security is looking to expand on our Downtown Foot Patrol Program. We are looking for a dedicated security guard that can provide a security presence for our downtown clients.

Themis Security is seeking dedicated and proactive Community Patrol Security Officers to join our team. Operating in the heart of downtown Victoria, our foot patrol officers are responsible for maintaining a visible security presence and enhancing the safety and well-being of the community. The patrol area includes **Fort Street, Yates Street, Government Street, Broad Street, Douglas Street, Blanshard Street, Pandora View Street, and Johnson Street.**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Visible Deterrence**:
Maintain a high-visibility presence to deter theft, vandalism, loitering, and other undesirable behavior.
- **Service Calls / Incident Response**:
Respond promptly to calls for service from local businesses, residents, or the public, including issues such as disturbances, trespassing, or suspicious activity.
- **Property Checks**:
Conduct routine checks of business premises (doors, windows, and other access points) to ensure they are secure, particularly during off-hours.
- **Coordination with Authorities**:
Collaborate with the Victoria Police Department (VicPD and By-Law) when appropriate to address trespassers that refuse to vacate private property.
- **Community Engagement**:
Foster strong relationships with local business owners, employees, and residents to build trust and enhance the overall sense of community safety.
- **First Aid & Conflict Resolution**:
Utilize training in first aid, mental health first aid, and conflict de-escalation when necessary to manage a range of incidents.
- **Reporting & Documentation**:
**Physical Requirements**:

- Ability to walk or stand for a minimum of 2 consecutive hours without rest
- Capable of ascending and descending stairs during patrols
- Able to complete full patrol rounds of the assigned area without rest

**Qualifications & Requirements**:

- Valid BC Security Worker License (must be carried at all times while on duty), **Advanced Security Training is an asset**:

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in using a smartphone for report writing, scanning checkpoints, and making calls
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies
- Professional demeanor and customer service-oriented mindset
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or customer-facing roles is considered an asset
- First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (mandatory)

**Working Conditions**:

- Shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Pay: $22.50-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 - 40 per week
