Eviction Prevention Worker

**Overview**
The work involves with multiple stakeholders (tenants, landlords, legal clinics, social assistance offices, LTB and other service providers in the community) to develop effective solution. The worker also provides wrap-around services to sustain the tenancy. The worker may be available 24/365 to assist clients and expected to work from office.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Conduct a detail intake and need assessments related to housing instability
- Intervene timely in response to client’s challenging situation
- Provide person-centered case management services that meet each person’s unique needs and/or complex challenges and make a case plan
- Develop a housing and/or immediate re-housing plan that is suitable for the client’s situation
- Assist and navigate with housing search (both market rent and RGI through MyAccesstoHousingTO)
- Support clients with financial Assistance and educate landlords and tenants rights and responsibilities and resources available to them.
- Connect clients to community resources to ensure the services are adequate to address the underlying issues that created the crisis
- Provide non-judgemental, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive services rooted in harm reduction and Housing First approaches
- Deliver services in person, including travelling to meet with people in their housing units, accompanying people to other service providers
- Establish a working relationship with each assigned client
- Adhere to service response standards and/or service levels from the City of Toronto, and/or other designated referral sources identified by the City. This may include responding to emergency displacement situations (e.g. individuals and households displaced from their housing due to fires or floods)
- Build and maintain relationships with housing providers in communities across Toronto, mainly landlord outreach and engagement to match the clients’ housing needs
- Support capacity building by providing individuals and households with information and support around system navigation within community and government agencies
- Coordinate information gathering and respond to emergency and non-emergency situations
- Ensure post-intervention follow-up is completed at three months and any other time period prescribed
- Compile, maintain a detailed case documentation, data entry and program outcomes as required
- Provide services after hours and on weekends when necessary
**Skills**
- At least bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification and expereince
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage clients.
- Knowledge of landlord and tenant's rights and responsibilities and related legal terminology relevant to client needs.
- Strong background in social work or related fields, with an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals at risk of eviction.
- Experience in data collection and reporting to track client progress and program effectiveness.
- Excellent public speaking skills for community outreach and education efforts.
- Familiarity with addiction counseling practices is a plus.
- Ability to empathize with clients while maintaining professional boundaries
- Second language would be an asset
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
