Cross Community Connections Worker

BGC East Scarborough is actively recruiting for a full-time Cross Community Connections Worker. The Cross

Community Connections Worker (CCCW) is responsible for the development and execution of a Youth Violence

Prevention Curriculum and activities for youth ages 12-18 who are at risk or are currently involved in violence-related

activities. Staff will work closely with partnering organizations within the South Scarborough communities to ensure the

effective implementation of the project.

Reporting to the Manager of Youth Programs and Community Outreach.

Major Responsibilities:

- Oversee YVP Project within TDSB and TCDSB schools by developing and facilitating school-based workshops

and presentations aimed at violence prevention and intervention.
- Facilitate school-based workshops within TDSB and TCDSB schools that support holistic healing with the

support of Native Child and Family Services.
- Provide trauma-informed culturally responsive programs, mentoring to youth who are impacted by violence,

provide assessments, goal setting, and access to services.
- Build youth assets by providing workshops focused on Social and Emotional Learning, cultural strengths, and

job preparation skills.
- Work collaboratively with the youth team and partner agencies to ensure the sound implementation and

adherence to the program goals
- Research, identify and share local resources and best practices to enrich program content and delivery.
- Identify and report trends and priorities needed for youth in the community.
- Determine the gaps in service delivery and recommend strategies for improvement.
- Meet regularly with the Manager of Youth and Community Outreach to update on status and plan strategies for

the program.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of program reports.
- Develop, maintain and expand effective professional collaborative relationships with schools, colleges,

universities and other community organizations for specific program needs.
- Interact with a diverse community of youth in both group and individual settings.
- Take a proactive approach to a potential problem, and create opportunities for positive change.
- Conduct individual assessments and provide feedback to both youth and parents/guardians where required.
- Responsible for recording program participants’ attendance.
- Attend offsite locations and trips with youth as per program requirements.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications:

- University Degree or completion of a College Diploma in a related field such as Child and Youth Worker,

Social Service Worker/Social Work, Social Science or other related fields.
- Proven minimum 3 years of experience developing, and facilitating workshops with at-risk youth.
- Experience working from an anti-racist/ anti-oppression framework.
- Excellent crisis management and conflict resolution skills; life skills coaching; group facilitation and team

leadership skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with youth from various cultural, ethnic, social-economic and developmental

backgrounds.
- Demonstrated knowledge of programs and services currently available to youth, parents and the broader

communities of Scarborough.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including

visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the experiences, issues and needs of at-risk youth which is normally acquired

through lived or work experience.
- Knowledge and experience working from a trauma-informed perspective.
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Possess a Standard First Aid and CPR+AED, clear Police Reference Check & Vulnerable Sector Check (or

willing to obtain).
- High Five Certification or willing to obtain certification prior to employment.
- Individuals who are enthusiastic, energetic with creative program planning skills.
- Genuine interest in working with youth between the ages of 12 - 18 years and a clear understanding of the

characteristics of youth.
- Strong leadership skills, programming skills, time management, and youth management skills.
- Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work with mínimal supervision.
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent

communication with youth, their families, community partners, staff and volunteers;
- Demonstrated ability to form relationships with marginalized individuals while maintaining professional boundaries

**Salary**: $33,000.00-$40,000.00 per year
