**JOB SUMMARY & PURPOSE**

This position is responsible for the feeding and cleaning of animals, giving medications, and other animal care related duties including, microchipping and vaccinating. In addition, this position is responsible for general housekeeping including garbage and laundry. This position provides an exemplary level of animal care and guest service and demonstrates passion for service to animals. Animal Care Workers support both cats and dogs and rotate between all animal rooms.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Clean, feed, medically treat, and provide all necessary care for all animals within the shelter as assigned
- Clean out and sanitize kennels, carriers, litter boxes, etc.
- Ensure the safety and security of animals (including aggressive animals) within the shelter always
- Complete daily maintenance and relevant paperwork for each animal daily
- Refer any behavioral or medical concerns to the Animal Care Coordinator
- Work effectively with other Animal Care Workers to ensure all pertinent information for each animal is recorded (medical, behavioral, location, etc.)
- Building cleanliness and maintenance, including laundry, sweeping/mopping, garbage, etc.
- Conduct intake assessments and health checks on new animals and provide vaccinations, boosters, etc. as required
- Administer medications for animals as per the Veterinarian’s instructions
- Conduct health check prior to animals leaving the shelter
- Speak with guest and visitors about the animals, support adoption processes as required
- Support reception as required (cover breaks, short staffing, etc.)
- Train animals as needed in an effort to promote adoption
- Socialize and exercise animals and pair up volunteers with animals for socialization
- Aid with afterhours animal intake as required
- Assist with animal transfer preparation and intake
- As the business evolves, so may this role. These duties may change as TBDHS’s leadership identifies the need at any time.

**SKILLS, ABILITIES & EXPERIENCE**
- Previous experience with animals required; Education in animal care or veterinary services considered an asset.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Physically capable to and able to carry out job duties in an efficient and thorough manner
- Strong observational and reporting skills
- Ability to vaccinate, microchip and perform various treatment techniques (or ability to learn)
- Experience with restraining animals safely and effectively considered an asset

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent, Casual

**Salary**: $15.00-$16.80 per hour
