One to one support worker

We are looking for an individual devoted to helping others and improving the life and well-being of one exceptional child. The child needing support at Craigflower is in a wheelchair due to a neuromuscular degenerative disease. She is not cognitively impaired, she is a bright 8 year old girl who is very independent. The role primarily involves someone to help ensure the program’s activities are inclusive and the environment is wheelchair accessible. She may need some assistance with toileting. The parent has requested that the support worker meets with the family in order to familiarize themselves with the child’s needs and establish a relationship.

**The ideal applicant shall possess**:

- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health concerns, and behaviours
- An understanding of the needs and barriers faced by individuals with various abilities
- Command of English language with ability to communicate effectively and complete daily documentation
- Ability to understand and follow health care plans, personal protocols, schedules, and activities
- Has patience and shows empathy
- Ability to follow policies and procedures, including health and safety policies
- An understanding of the difference between creating independence vs. creating dependence
- Knowledge and experience with community resources, integration, and teaching life skills
- The physical ability to perform all the duties required of the position

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months

**Salary**: $21.00 per hour
