Claims Examiner III Reinsurance

**Description:
- Permanent Full Time- As a Claims Examiner III, you’ll provide senior level adjudication of Reinsurance and Retrocession Individual Life and Health (DI & Waiver) claim decisions. Every day could look a little different as you perform a range of tasks to support the claim team by resolving client inquiries, performing ad hoc training, and assisting with projects and audits. You will also ensure legitimate claims are approved and paid in accordance with the treaty provisions.- What you will do-
- Adjudicate/Approve US$ and CAN$ Life, Accidental Death Benefit (ADB), Waiver and Disability Insurance (DI) claims with a focus on large dollar claims within the two-year contestability period.
Ensure the correct proofs of claim are received; confirm the policy premiums are paid through date of claim; review treaty wording for compliance (i.e. pool percentage, auto bind and retention limits); identify underwriting and claim issues and ensure material discrepancies are investigated, validated and/or resolved prior to payment.
Identify fraudulent claims.
Claim Portfolio ownership.
Take a lead role in recognizing and resolving internal and external client issues.
Recognize and recommend process improvements.
Ensure internal process and procedures are adhered to.
Participate in internal and client audits including presentation, discussion and recommendations.
Assist with the training of junior staff and manage special projects.
- What you will bring-
- Post-secondary degree or equivalent with experience adjudicating claims
Knowledge of life underwriting principals and medical aspects: including anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology are an asset
Thorough knowledge and understanding of claim treaty language and claim related clauses.
Proficiency and experience in evaluating potential legal consequences of claim decisions including consulting with legal staff.
Basic understanding of the direct and reinsurance processes and how they relate to each other.
A team player who can independently work in fast paced environment with a high degree of accuracy.
Proven problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical skills, and judgement. Able to consider data, identify anomalies and use information to develop action plans.
Strong organizational and time management skills and able to quickly adapt to changes with a positive demeanor.
Ability to build and maintain inclusive relationships with teammates, clients and decision makers.
Strong collaboration mindset demonstrated through actively fostering cross-functional teamwork.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office products.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working towards obtaining industry related courses (ICA/LOMA/ALU) and applicable designation (i.e. FLHC/AALU).
Able to travel within North America.
- The base salary for this position is between **$65,400.00****:

- $ 108,900.00** annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
