**The Role**
- Refuels, cleans, sanitizes, and stocks ambulances and emergency response vehicles. Performs minor vehicle maintenance (e.g., bulb replacements, fluid levels, air pressure), and equipment quality assurance checks. Maintains documentation. Work can involve varying shift times, duration, and statutory holidays.

**Duties/Responsibilities**
- Refuels, cleans, and sanitizes ambulances and emergency response vehicles to prepare for next work periods. Checks vehicle and kit contents and restocks to meet mandatory levels. Replaces defective/missing accessories as needed. Maintains related documentation.
- Performs minor vehicle maintenance (e.g., bulb replacements, fluid levels, air pressure). Consults with management regarding scheduled/emergency service. Removes vehicles from service as needed, and transports for service. Assists during breakdowns in the field by transporting vehicles.
- Collects depleted kits, defibrillators, and portable radios from incoming crews. Charges batteries, cleans equipment as needed, and issues replenished kits and charged batteries.
- Replaces oxygen cylinders as required. Conducts bi-annual mandatory oxygen/suction equipment quality assurance. Completes and forwards documentation to management.
- Performs mandatory stretcher quality assurance maintenance. Completes and forwards documentation to management.
- Restocks automated hospital and other replenishment points with supplies and medications on a regular schedule and as required.
- Receives supplies and prepares materials being shipped for outside servicing (e.g., oxygen cylinders, soiled linen, waste sharps). Maintains a computerized inventory of equipment and supplies, and records equipment maintenance performed.
- Returns equipment and supplies belonging to other ambulance services, and traces Waterloo Region equipment left at hospitals outside Waterloo Region.
- Performs general housekeeping duties as required.
- Exchanges information with the central ambulance communications centre, area hospitals, other health care facilities, neighbouring ambulance services, med-lift providers, other emergency services, and suppliers. Occasionally responds to general inquiries from community agencies, services, institutions, area municipalities, and the Ministry.
- Participates in meetings and on committees to provide input for policies and assist in implementing procedures.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Familiarity with medical supplies and equipment, normally acquired through a grade 12 education and experience working with medical supplies and equipment (e.g., as a personal support worker, through St John’s Ambulance, non-emergency transfer service).
- Must have current immunization against tetanus and Hepatitis B.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation (e.g., Ambulance Act and Regulations).
- General mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem solving skills to perform minor vehicle maintenance, identify and restock supplies/kits, perform institutional/auto cleaning, and perform quality assurance tests and maintenance.
- Communication and organizational skills to provide customer service to other staff; refer emergency situations to management as appropriate; occasionally respond to general inquiries from other staff, community agencies, services, institutions, area m
