**Job Summary**
The goal of the _Appointment Room Technician_ is to support the practice team and ensure the DVM is able to move through appointments in a timely and efficient manner. While working efficiently with all hospital staff.
**Job Duties & Responsibilities**
Review what the patient is visiting us for and check the file for any vaccines, preventives like Bravecto /HG, or monitoring blood work (4dx) that may be due prior to visit.
- Weigh patient, escort into appointment room, offer patient a treat.
- TPR and brief history about what the patient visit is about (this should take no longer than 2 - 3 minutes).
- Review puppy/kitten package if required.
- Alert DVM that patient is ready for examination and give brief history obtained from Client.
- Prepare any vaccines or treatments necessary (ear swab / cleaning, blood draws, etc). Keeping things prepared for the DVM will help to make the appointment go smoothly and save time.
- Restrain pet for DVM, if necessary. Type medical notes in patient file.
- Sign patients up for _Pet Insurance_ trial (all pets 4 and under), offer Scratch Pay where required.
- Review Treatment Plan as recommended by DVM with Client. Work with floater technician to do x-rays, blood work, etc.** IF** client declines part of treatment plan this must be marked declined on invoice.
- Gather, review with client and send home any education materials. Educate clients regarding preventative medicine, preventative blood work (especially Pre surgical Bloodwork & 4Dx testing).
- Demonstrate medicating pet. Have client record on their phone so they can review at home.
- Educate clients on our practice programs: VitusVet, Punches for Pets Loyalty Program, MyVetStore, Pet Insurance (free trial for all pets under 4 years of age).
- Book Future Appointment or Spay/Neuter/Dentistry prior to exiting exam room.
- Walk client to front desk when possible and hand off to receptionist. _Offer_ _p_atient_ a bandana or toy_.
- Clean exam room and start next appointment.
**Additional duties**:
- When appointments are not occurring assists Surgical Technician with patient inductions, cleaning packs, logging drugs, monitoring patients in recovery.
- Assist in keeping clinic tidy (windows, floors, etc.) during quiet times.
- Sets up, take x-rays.
- Assist with hospital laundry to ensure up to date.
- Ensure bloodwork is in Iddex box at end of shift. Secure back door.
**_Leadership_**_ & Client Service_**:
- Maintaining a positive and professional demeanor in hospital at all times. This includes being respectful of teammates and clients, appropriate dress or uniform, and prioritizing work duties in an effective manner.
- Demonstrating accountability and professionalism by conducting accurate and timely results with mínimal supervision.
- Planning ahead to anticipate the patient / doctor’s needs.
- Greeting clients, either on the phone or in person, in a friendly and welcoming manner.
**Skills **&** Basic **Qualifications**
- RVT Certificate
- 2+ years experience in a veterinary hospital preferred
- Proficient in (computer use / programs) with the utmost of accuracy.
- Ability to communicate ideas, express opinion and respond to team members in a professional and positive manner. Involves using an upbeat tone, displaying positive body language, actively listening and understanding the value of differing opinions and ideas.
- The ability to work through problems effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Build positive client relationships through remaining calm in all circumstances, displaying a genuine care and compassion towards clients and their pets, being respectful and non-judgmental in all interactions and providing exceptional customer service.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, models professionalism and positivity with staff and clients.
- Interpersonal skills with teammates and clients and works well in a team environment.
