Overview:
The Math Faculty Computing Facility (MFCF) supports the computing needs of all members and visitors of the Faculty of Mathematics apart from the members of the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science.

**Responsibilities**:
The Information Technology Specialist (USG 9) is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the Math Faculty Help Centre. This includes assisting with the computing environments and their supporting infrastructure, as well as enabling and improving the outcomes for administrative, teaching, and research computing. The Information Technology Specialist is expected to assist with the key accountabilities: Client Service, Systems and Application Management, and Services Development. The incumbent will be expected to resolve common issues independently or escalate the request to the IT support group when necessary.

Qualifications:

- College diploma or university degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Basic working knowledge of computer hardware components, and their characteristics
- Basic working knowledge of at least one operating system and can perform tasks (such as system installation) using established methodologies and procedures
- Familiar with basic single-user system management operations on at least one type of system
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language, and can design, test, and document simple programs, forms, or interfaces
- Working knowledge of at least one type of electronic desktop and can make effective use of the desktop to carry their own work, and to assist others
- Able to contribute to the provision of an existing service
- Able to develop an area of specialization within the MFCF team and the scope of MFCF activities
- Able to interact with their team lead, while working with functional independence within established procedures
- Some system skills in one or more of Windows, macOS, and Linux based systems would be considered an asset
- Experience with remote management tools such as Beyond Trust and Apple Remote Desktop would be considered an asset
- Should be proficient with collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Zoom, and Skype for Business
- Listens and effectively responds to clients’ routine questions, in a timely fashion according to service standards
- Clearly documents client requests while keeping the clients informed of the progress
- Ensures that deadlines are met and keeps stakeholders informed of task/project/program status
- Participates in the planning of activities on well-defined tasks and organizes work on assigned tasks
- Exchanges knowledge with colleagues and clients and demonstrates tact in dealing with differences of ideas and opinions, and shares learning with less knowledgeable individuals
- When communicating with other IT staff, exchanges detailed information concerning technical matters with clarity and conciseness, both orally and written
