EARLY LEARNING AND
CHILD CARE MANAGER
Vancouver Island, School District 84 resides on the beautiful West Coast of Vancouver Island in the traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, and delivers public education to approximately 350 students in the First Nations communities of Kyuquot, Oclucje, Ehatis, and Tsaxana, as well as the rural communities of Zeballos, Tahsis and Gold River.
Recognizing that as guests on Nuu-chah-nulth territory, all District employees work to incorporate Nuu-chah-nulth ways into their practice, this position will provide the duties required for overseeing the development, operation and programming of Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) programs in School District 84 schools. This includes day to day management of the programs, mentoring ECE's and liaison between programs and school administrators. The ELCC Manager is responsible for three main areas: quality assurance, partnerships, and development of early learning programs. This includes policy implementation and effective management of School District 84 child care and associated programs as well as overall planning, development and implementation and supervision of age-appropriate activities to enhance the cognitive, physical, social and emotional develop according to the District's philosophy, licensing regulations and the Early Learning Framework. The ELCC Manager travels extensively and represents the District to the greater community to further partnerships, advocacy objectives, programming initiatives and community partnership goals.
**The ELCC Manager will be responsible to**:
?Manage and oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of child care in the District, and mentor and supervise staff in providing engaging, interactive educational experiences;
?Ensure that centre facilities are safe for children and respects the rights of all children;
?Develop and facilitate a marketing and communication plan to promote community awareness;
?Obtain and maintain appropriate licensing and provide support with licensing inspections;
?Liaise with multiple District department and external stakeholders including First Nations;
?Develop strong relationships with school and District administration, school communities, parents, early learning community groups, support agencies, licensing bodies and organizations in order to provide the best care for children;
?Model positive guidance and effective behaviour management to maintain the safety, well-being and attention of all children;
?Meet and report regularly to the District Principal, and manage supplies, maintain records and files;
?Assist families with accessing resources and programs available to them;
?Ability to problem solve and respond to consorts of staff and families;
?Promote community and school awareness and understanding;
?Tutor and coach community members working towards ECE certification, and provide training and professional development to staff members;
?Support the use of the Early Learning Framework and Action Plan with all child care providers;
?Provide support to School Principals and supervise support staff who are supporting childcare programs held within District properties including StrongStart centres;
?Draft/recommend Administrative Procedures for Early Learning and Care as this area grows;
?Lead and participate in yearly reviews of child care programs held within District properties; and,
?Other job related responsibilities as assigned.
