Supported by a network of independent sales agents across North America, SSM operates two production facilities within the Calgary area, with a third scheduled to open fall of 2024. To support its growth and expansion, SSM is looking to add several Purchasing/Logistics positions to the team.
**Responsibilities**:
**Purchasing**:
- Process Requests for Quotations (RFQ’s) and transmit to vendors.
- Track vendor acknowledgements.
- Procure engineering specified bill of material items based on MRP logic.
- Confirm lead times, delivery dates, and costs and communicate any shortages or backlogs.
- Expedite and update open purchase orders from approval through to closure.
- Work with the QA group to address supplier quality issues and prepare return documentation.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure no stock outs.
- Prepare any non bill-of-material purchase orders in the system.
- Liaise with other departments to resolve questions related to design, material supply, receiving and cost.
- Suggest strategies for the most cost-effective supply of shop supplies, tools and equipment.
- Assist in the development of strategies for the most cost-effective supply of commodities to support the production group.
- Maintain preferred suppliers, costs, lead times, min/max and safety stock levels in the ERP.
- Input into continuous improvement from an ERP, process and policy perspective.
- Conduct monthly PPV analysis.
**Logistics**:
- Plan outgoing shipments based on the timing of unit completion and customer requests.
- Track shipments to ensure timely deliveries to customers through effective coordination and communication.
- Prepare RFQs for freight quotes and select preferred carrier based on both quote and availability.
- Prepare all necessary shipping documents such as bills of lading, packing slips and customs’ related documents for cross border shipments to the USA.
- Prepare and process purchase orders for inbound/outbound freight.
**Job Requirements**
- Minimum of 5+ years in a similar purchasing role.
- Previous experience working with ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Outstanding organization and coordination abilities.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Preferred: Purchasing Accreditation, Mechanical Engineering training, experience using Visual Manufacturing (ERP).
