**Our Organization**:
Cherish Integrated Services (CHIS) is a registered non-profit social services organization incorporated on May 18, 2010. This organization was founded to provide services and support to promote social inclusion of persons with developmental disabilities in their communities. We are dedicated to provide systematic and holistic training programs with the concept of Structured Teaching as the core program model for the service recipients. We treasure and believe in the uniqueness and dignity of individuals, and aim to enhance their individual social functioning in daily living; help support them to live, work and actively participate in a wide range of daily activities.
As a summer worker, you will have the opportunity to experience the rewarding work of supporting those with developmental disabilities in the community. You will also gain unique professional experience working in the non-profit sector.
**Responsibilities**
- Provide personal care & support to adults with developmental disabilities during adaptive daily living activities.
- Design and implement training programs for program participants in order to enhance their quality of life and their independence in daily living.
- Create and maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment in the programs.
- Support participants to manage their emotional and behavioral needs in order to promote their positive behavior.
- Complete and update participant’s progress notes and reports as required
- Attend and participate in participant-related case reviews and conferences.
- Attend and participate in supervision sessions with the supervisor as scheduled.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Report to and seek directives from Program Officers in the event of serious occurrences.
- Perform other duties/assignments as assigned by the supervisor
**Requirements**:
- Post-Secondary degree (completed or in progress) in a relevant field such as Child and Youth Care, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling.
- Completed High School Diploma (no Post-Secondary) accepted for positions with July start date
- Minimum 1 year experience working with children/youth in a professional setting, preferably with Special Needs clients
- Familiarity with approaches to working with people with developmental disabilities
- Must be fluent in English. Fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, or another second language is an asset.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Familiarity with common technological devices and softwares such as Google Apps, Microsoft Office, etc.
**Eligibility (as per Canada Summer Jobs funding)**
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Pay: $17.50 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Work Location: In person
