**PURPOSE**: Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinator provides administrative and coordination support to the organization’s health and safety programs. Working closely with the OHS Advisor, the OHS Coordinator assists in the implementation and maintenance of workplace health and safety policies, procedures and events to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements under Canada Labour Code and the Workers Compensation Board. This is a full-time permanent position, working in office and in the field as needed with local travel required.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**: Cowichan Tribes offers an excellent benefit and pension plan available after successful completion of the probationary period. The position includes paid training, paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience, the position starts at $32.78-$34.78 per hour ($59,651.82- $63,306.16 annually).

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide administrative and logístical support to the OHS Advisor in implementing health and safety policies, procedures, and training.
- Assist in the day-to-day coordination of occupational health and safety programs, wellness initiatives, and activities across the organization, including but not limited to: planning, communication, scheduling, organization, set up/take down etc.
- Schedule, track, and maintain records of health and safety training, certifications, and renewals for employees.
- Maintain OHS records, reports, and databases, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Assist in collecting, logging, and tracking incident and near-miss reports; prepare documentation for follow up and review by the OHS Advisor
- Coordinate and participate in workplace inspections and incident investigations as guided by the OHS Advisor; prepare documentation for review by the OHS Advisor.
- Monitor and coordinate the availability of safety-related supplies, signage and personal protective equipment.
- Provide administrative support to the OHS Advisor for the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and recording minutes.
- Maintain logs and databases to monitor organizational compliance with OHS requirements.
- Perform other related duties as required to support the HR Director and OHS Advisor in advancing health and safety programs.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:_**(please attach all required documents)**_
- Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
- 3 years of related work experience in an occupational health and safety role preferred.
- Experience working for a First Nations Organization is preferred.
- A combination of related work experience and education may be considered.
- First Aid Certificate.
- WHMIS Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:

- Knowledge of Cowichan culture, customs, traditions and language and/or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of internal and external community resources is an asset.
- Diversity awareness and cultural sensitivity skills.
- Knowledge of relevant occupational health and safety legislation and regulations including the Canada Labour Code, Workers Compensation Act, WorkSafe BC and the Human Rights Code.
- Administrative, coordination, and record-keeping skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a friendly and professional manner with a range of staff and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and accepted standard practices.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to travel to different Cowichan Tribes worksites and offices.
