Design and Estimation Manager

The Design and Estimation Manager (RCDD) is responsible for the accurate and timely estimation of project costs related to low voltage systems, including structured cabling, security, access control, audio-visual, and other related systems. The D&E Manager will be an integral part of the Management and Operations team.
**Responsibilities & Duties**:
- Advise on tending procedures, examine, and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations
- Establish and maintain tending process and set up cost monitoring and reporting system and procedures
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of the project
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subtractors
- Estimate costs to complete project using approved client rates
- Collaborate with all other departments and divisions to optimize efficiency and to ensure projects estimates are feasible and attainable
- Conducting site visits and determining job scope and working with end client to optimize a solution. Analyzing blueprints to determine wire lengths as well as suitable outlet needs based on telecommunications standards requirements
- Determine the amount, type, and cost of materials including racking, power distribution needs and UPS requirements
- Determine the amount of labor required to complete each project
- Determine the potential profitability of communications projects including analysis of labor rates with management to assist in making sound bidding decisions
- Provide viable solutions to increase project profitability and quoting success
- Completing and submitting competitive project bids in accordance with established guidelines of the project documentation
- Establish relationships and consistent communication with distribution to create excellent price structures on multiple material line-ups
- Consistent and thorough communication with trade clientele to establish best relationship practices for closing bid work. On time quotations and consistent follow-up on submitted tenders.
- Other duties are required which are related to the role and further the best interests of the organization
**Experience**:
- Minimum of 10 years of direct work experience in the Electrical or Communications Field
- Minimum 5 years of in field hands-on experience
- Existing strong relationships with General and Electrical contractors
- Strong Experience and fluency working with several types of construction and telecommunications projects drawings, and blueprints
- Fluent English language written and verbal skills
- Strong planning and organization skills
- Excellent negotiation and consulting skills
- Experienced of Microsoft Office and Adobe programs
- Experience with estimating software such as Procore/Esticom
- Possess a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 Operator’s License with a clean driver abstract as this role requires travel and attending job sites as required
- Ability to meet deadlines and commitments and to adjust/adapt to innovative ideas and procedures
- Resourceful, adaptable, high integrity, self-starter, independent
**Education**:
- RCDD
- Education or certifications in Construction Management or Estimation an asset
