Reporting to the Director of Wellness **Position Summary**: The NIHB Navigator will assist eligible First Nations and Inuit clients to navigate the NIHB Program and related provincial/territorial programs and services. The NIHB Navigator also support First Nation and Inuit clients and communities in increasing awareness of the NIHB Program, existing health services, and jurisdictions. They also gather, collate and exchange information on health access issues and identify ways of improving health services for First Nations and Inuit Clients. **Responsibilities**: - Serve as point of contact for communities, organizations and/or individuals for the purpose of facilitating access to the NIHB Program and also provide support to address NIHB denials and appeals; - Collaborate with NIHB regional office on programs/projects/initiatives that would improve awareness of, and access to the NIHB Program and better integration of health services; - Advocate and liaise with First Nations and Inuit (FN/I), Federal/Provincial/Territorial (F/P/T) health services, professional organizations and health service providers in order to assist eligible clients to navigate the NIHB Program on related benefits access; - Develop a communication strategy and implement approaches to improve FN/I awareness and understanding of the NIHB Program; - Promote understanding of the role of the Navigator among communities, Provincial and Territorial agencies, health care providers in the region, and other relevant organizations; - Develop and maintain a network of contacts in order to strengthen relationships with stakeholders, health care service providers, F/P/T partners; - Identify training needs and opportunities for improving access to health services and health outcomes for communities; - Document and report on project status, deliverables, milestones, obstacles, and forecasts; - Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as and when required basis. ***Working Environment**: Standard office environment; regular travel to communities (as required) **Physical Demands**: Freedom of movement; Keyboarding (>2 hrs at a time); ability to take breaks as necessary; Driving and sensory demands **Health and Safety**: ***Rights**:All Saskatoon Tribal Council employees have the right to information on potential hazards in the workplace, the right to participate in Occupational Health and Safety decisions, use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and the right to refuse dangerous work. ***Responsibilities**:All employees must co-operate with the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Committee; remain alert to changes or events that might affect client or employee safety; report safety issues, accidents or injuries immediately; follow safe work practices, including the use of PPE; and use their training and knowledge to help other employees work safely as well. **Education and Experience**: - A completed Bachelors degree in business, or social work and project management certification; - Demonstrated experience with advocacy; - Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset. **Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities**: - Knowledge and understanding of First Nation health services and structures; - Knowledge of Non-insured Health Benefits and other Indigenous Health Canada Programs and Services; - Proven ability to demonstrate results and outcomes for relatives and STC communities; - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; - Analytical, decision making and the ability to recognize challenges, identify causes and provide solutions; - Dependability: able to work independently, submit accurate documentation, and seek guidance when needed. - Receptive: accept feedback, take ownership of responsibilities, and identifies areas of growth; - Interpersonal Skills: communicates clearly, seek solutions, and demonstrates flexibility; - Integrity: keep sensitive information confidential and adheres to STC’s policies; - Initiative: seeks opportunities for further development. **Other**: - Must possess a valid driver’s license (class 5) and meet STC’s insurance requirements. - Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
