Under the general direction of the Reader Services Section Head Librarian, the Reader Services Librarian participates in the planning, development, delivery, evaluation and promotion of effective and responsive library services at the Millennium Library. The Reader Services Librarian provides general information and reader’s advisory services, plans and promotes programming, participates in outreach initiatives and assists in the maintenance of the collection, as required.

**As the **_Reader Services Librarian_** **you will**:

- Provide and ensure the provision of general information and reader’s advisory services.
- Identify community needs and plan, deliver, promote and evaluate the programming for the Reader Services Section to meet those needs.
- Participate in outreach initiatives for the Section.
- Maintain daily work schedules for the Section.
- Supervise the Reader Services Section as required, directing the workflow, establishing priorities, handling contentious issues etc.
- Provide user instruction and staff development sessions.
- Assist in building partnerships with other City departments, community groups and external agencies.
- Participate in collection maintenance.
- Participate in the development of promotional materials including booklists, posters, and displays
- Create and maintain online Info Guides, blog content and online services for adult reader’s advisory.
- Function as a member of various system committees including the Programming Committee
- Prepare statistical reports and write grants.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as assigned.

**Your education and qualifications include**:
1. A Master of Library & Information Sciences (MLIS/MLS) degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). An MLIS degree (or equivalent) obtained internationally through a formally accredited institution may also be considered.
2. Previous library experience is an asset.
4. Ability to evaluate and integrate the use of information technologies in the provision of library services.
5. Ability to plan and provide quality programs for adults.
6. Ability to make presentations and promote library materials, services and programs to the community.
7. Ability to deal effectively with the public and staff on a problem-solving basis.
8. Ability to work as a member of a team and to maintain effective working relationships.
9. Strong planning and organizational skills.
10. A strong commitment to public service and the ability to work with a diverse patronage.
11. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
12. Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
13. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
