**STRUCTURE**: Potential for hybrid work model (2 days remote work/week)
**REPORTING TO**: Human Resources Business Partner, Canadian Road Builders
**POSITION TERM**: Parental Leave Cover, 12 Month Contract

As HR Generalist you will play a key role in upholding the presence of HR within the company. Supporting management the Human Resource Generalist will engage in a wide array of human resource activities, including, but not limited to recruitment and onboarding, benefits and disability management, training and employee development, workplace investigations, workplace policy guide, performance management, and general workplace reporting. The Human Resource Generalist will act as a primary point of contact for field and non-field employees within the Divisions under their assignment.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Supports the HRBP to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in all functions of HR, including but not limited to recruitment, onboarding, benefits, pension, learning and development and employee management.
- Collaborates with Colas Western Canada and Colas Canada group of companies to build relationships, align programs and policies and implement improvements and changes.
- Supports company to ensure organizational compliance with all legislative and union requirements.
- Provide one-on-one HR support to respective managers and employees alike.
- Supports the HRBP in providing guidance, clarification and assistance to supervisors and managers on employee relations.
- Supports HRBP in thoroughly investigating and reporting on all employee relations issues.
- Administers the benefits and pension plans for hourly workforce.
- Manage the hourly workforce recruitment, including rehire and layoff of seasonal workforce
- Communicates with Hiring Managers on a regular basis to determine job vacancies, and discuss appropriate recruitment tactics
- Deploy appropriate recruitment tactics aimed to fill job vacancies in a timely and appropriate manner
- Conduct employee onboarding, as per company policy, practices and procedures
- Process off-boarding in a timely and efficient manner to ensure employee and company interests are fairly represented at time of departure
- Conduct regular site visits, ensuring adequate HR presence in the operations and job sites
- Key support in assessing employee engagement, soliciting employee feedback, addressing employee concerns and delivering company communications
- Support the HRBP in identifying and recommending internal employees for learning and development opportunities
- Support and promote DEI initiatives for the company and Colas group
- Support HRBP and management in conducting and reviewing employee appraisals and development plans
- Manage and maintain various HR data tracking and reporting within internal software (SAP)
- Support in the collection and analysis of data and reporting
- Work closely with Payroll to ensure system changes are audited and completed
- Administration of HR policies and procedures
- Thoroughly investigate and report upon employee relation issues
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
- Must adhere to the principles identified in the company’s Code of Ethics and continuously examine situations in light of these principles
- Ensure compliance with controls, safeguards, and company policies
- Other Human Resource Generalist duties as required.

**What You Bring**:

- Post-secondary graduate, with a concentration in Business, Human Resources or related program, from a recognized institution is required.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within a Human Resource Department is required, of which 1 to 3 years musts be within a Generalist role
- Must possess a valid Class 5 drivers license, or equivalent
- Employment experience within the construction industry an asset
- Experience working with HRIS, such as SuccessFactors or JD Edwards an asset
- Knowledge and experience conducting workplace investigations
- Proficient understanding of employment legislation
- Experience with labour
