**THE POSITION**

The Calgary Flames are searching for a passionate and skilled Data Analyst to join our growing Analytics team within Hockey Operations. In this role, you will be tasked with supporting key groups of the organization with clearly communicated data-driven inferences. You will also be actively contributing to and collaborating on research initiatives that will further advance our understanding of the sport.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Create both standardized and ad-hoc reporting that supports key groups throughout the organization, including but not limited to coaching staffs, scouts and the player development staff
- Both collaborate on and lead research initiatives aimed at improving our understanding of the game
- Clearly communicate with management, scouts, coaches and player development staff to incorporate data into decision-making
- Collaborate with the Analytics team to stimulate ideas, problem solve, and produce research-based strategy recommendations to stakeholders across hockey operations

**THE INDIVIDUAL**

The ideal individual will have the following background:
**Qualifications and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, engineering, business administration, or another related STEM field
- 3+ years of professional data analyst, research, modelling or similar experience
- 3+ years of professional experience presenting data-driven insights to non-technical audiences
- Proficient with Python, R or at least one other general purpose programming language
- Experience with SQL, and a strong understanding of general database principles
- Strong data visualization skills with experience using programmatic tools such as ggplot2, seaborn, plotly, etc.
- Highly skilled and familiar with the Microsoft Office suite
- Demonstrated experience with machine learning methods, including clustering, random forests, boosting and neural networks is a bonus
- Prior experience working in hockey is a bonus

- Able to work flexible, non-standard hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
- Invested in learning and gaining new skills, both technical and non-technical
