Organizational Unit - University of Victoria -> Student Affairs -> University Food Services - Location - University of Victoria - Victoria, BC V8W 2Y2 CA (Primary) - Posting Close Date - 12 August 2025 - Please note that positions will close at 4 p.m. on the closing date. - FTE - 0.53 and 0.67 - Salary Grade - $25.15 - $25.57 - Additional Posting Information: - N/A - Salary posted will be pro-rated based on FTE and achieved as per the collective agreement, if applicable. - Hours of Work - Varied including evenings and weekends - Employee Group: - CUPE 917 - Regular - # of Hires Needed - 2 - Position Number - 993861, 993219 - Category - Restaurant and Food Service - About this Opportunity **_These positions commence September 2025. _**_Subject to intermittent layoffs during holidays and reading breaks._** **Requirements**: - Must be available for a variety of shifts, including early mornings (starting at 6:00 am), late evenings (up to 11:00 pm), and weekends. - Reliable transportation is essential due to limited public transit during early morning and late night hours. - Level 1 Food Safe is required. - Job Summary - sets up cash register with cash float and current date; - receives cash payment and makes change for food and drink purchases by customers; - itemizes cash received by denomination and amount at end of shift and places in safe or delivers to designated staff member, according to established procedures; - readies and refills drink machines and stocks serving cases with foods, beverages, condiments and other supplies as required; - cleans serving cases and counters; checks and validates meal passes by manual or automated methods and monitors trays for quantities in assigned dining areas; - keeps records as required. - may assist in training new cashiers and in lock-up procedures. - performs related work as required. - Job Requirements **Qualifications**: - Ability to handle cash accurately, make change, and keep simple records and receipts; - Good communication skills and a commitment to working effectively within a team environment. - Knowledge of food safety standards, effective sanitation and housekeeping practices, and the operation of standard kitchen appliances and equipment. - Ability to learn routines related to assisting in food preparation and service. - Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, standing and walking for long periods of time. **Territory Acknowledgement**: We acknowledge and respect the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory the university stands, and the Lək̓ʷəŋən and WSÁNEĆ Peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. **What UVic Offers**: To learn more click here
