**Position Description**:
SickKids is building mental health expertise and service as part of its commitment to improving care, aligned with the newly launched Mental Health Strategy.

We are currently looking for part-time **Child & Youth Counsellors **to join our team provide direct inpatient care to children/youth and support after hour mental health care within the Emergency Department and across the hospital.The CYC will be a partner to the resident on call and provide direct support to prevent agitation and aggression for at-risk patients of the hospital.

**Here's What You'll Get To Do**:

- Support emergency department assessments and consults for psychistric patients.
- Provide support and direction in the prevention of behavioural escalations in children and youth; respond to Code White situations with patients to ensure the safety of the patient, family, and care team.
- Develop and support plans of care in collaboration with the child/family and the multidisciplinary team.
- When appropriate, provide therapeutic engagement/supervision to patients experiencing acute health and mental health issues.
- Support patient and family through admission inclusive of situational crisis.
- Support the inpatient mental health team as needed.

**Here's What You'll Need**:

- Certified Child and Youth Counsellor Diploma from a community college with a Baccalaureate degree in a related field preferred.
- Professional member of the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors (OACYC) is preferred.
- Broad experience in mental health and eating disorders services for children and adolescents is required.
- Experience working with adolescents in acute mental health settings an asset
- Understanding of the issues of health equity, anti-black racism, diversity, and inclusion in the context of health service delivery
- Experience and training in non-violent crisis prevention and intervention an asset
- Experience with principles of DBT and CBT in clinical practice an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with patients, families
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team and to take initiative when appropriate.
- Strong ability to lead and facilitate team processes.
- Working knowledge of available community resources to support patient and family needs
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a dynamic fast paced healthcare environment where respect, accountability and transparency are highly valued aspects of the team environment
- Demonstrated proficiency is using electronic healthcare platforms such as EPIC and Office 365

**Employment Type**

Part time 0.6 FTE, contract position for 12 months with opportunity to renew.

**This is an after hours position.**

**During the weekday shifts will be 8 hour evenings, 15:30-23:30 and 8 hour night, 23:30-07:30.**

**On weekends and stat holidays shifts will be 12 hours 07:30-19:30 and 19:30-07:30.**
