**Overview**
Since 1975 The Mustard Seed Street Church has been essential in fighting hunger and restoring faith to our community in Greater Victoria. Our operations are nearly 100 percent community funded and our services include a Food Bank, a Food Rescue Program
that serves over 70 agencies in the CRD and Hospitality and Meal programs. We also offer Church Services for those seeking a place to belong and grow spiritually. Through these core programs we assist over 65,000 people each month with the help of more than 50 daily volunteers and many generous financial supporters
**The Position**
The Volunteer & Events Coordinator supports the planning and delivery of The Mustard Seed Street Church (MSSC) volunteer activities and, occasionally, events. Working closely with the Volunteer & Events Officer and other staff, this role helps ensure volunteers are engaged, appreciated, and supported and events run smoothly. The coordinator contributes to MSSC’s mission by providing dependable assistance, fostering positive relationships, and helping create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide support in volunteer recruitment, scheduling, orientation, communication, and recognition.
- Assist the Volunteer & Events Officer with the organization and coordination of events.
- Help prepare materials, track information, and maintain records related to volunteers and events.
- Carry out administrative and logístical tasks as assigned.
**Key Competencies**
- Ability to occasionally stand/walk for a shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Friendly, reliable, and professional with strong interpersonal skills.
- Organized and detail-oriented; able to follow through on tasks.
- Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible and adaptable; willing to take initiative when appropriate.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Committed to maintaining confidentiality and supporting MSSC values.
**Success Indicators**
- Documentation and records are accurate and maintained in a timely manner.
- Assigned tasks contribute to events and volunteer operations running smoothly and safely.
- Staff, volunteers, and partners provide positive feedback on professionalism and teamwork.
- Demonstrates initiative in assisting with planning and suggesting small improvements.
- Contributes to a team culture where safety, efficiency, and organization are supported.
**Qualifications**
- Some post-secondary education or equivalent experience in events, volunteer support, or administration (nonprofit experience an asset).
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance.
- Assets: familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Better Impact, or similar systems.
**Terms of Employment**
- Must be willing to sign the staff code of conduct.
- Must read and agree to MSSC policies (living, evolving documents).
- Reports to: Volunteer & Events Officer.
- Term: Full-Time, Permanent.
- Hours: 30-37.5 weekly.
- Shift range: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some evenings and weekends for events.
- Must provide an acceptable Criminal Record Check with appropriate clearance.
- MSSC follows BC Employment Standards.
