Job Description:
Consistent with the inter professional setting and the mission, vision and strategic directions of CHEO, the Social Worker provides psychosocial assessments and therapeutic intervention to children and youth who present to CHEO following a sexual assault and provide counselling and support as well as other forms of child maltreatment. The social worker will use trauma informed support to parents and caregivers of children who have experienced a sexual assault and will intervene with children and youth based on trauma focused approaches. Social Work services are provided to patients and their families to address social and emotional stressors, crisis intervention and liaise with community based agencies and services. The Social Worker will provide support at an individual, family and group level and will advocate on behalf of patients and families with regards to community services/resources and financial needs.
The Social Worker will be a member of the CHEO Discipline of Social Work and will participate in Social Work activities (coverage, mentorship, supervision, committees, etc,) as appropriate.
PRIMARY DUTIES- The social worker provides specialized psychosocial assessment knowledge and skills, including short terms counselling support to children, youth and families where abuse or neglect is suspected or evident.- Provide trauma focused interventions with parents and families.- Social Worker will play a key role in the development and implementation of family interventions and support.- Facilitate psycho-educational and/or support for families, as requested.- Participate in interdisciplinary team/committee meetings, as appropriate.- Assist families with advocacy and co-ordination of community resources.- Liaise with appropriate local and regional Sexual Assault Networks as one of the key members of the CHEO Team.- Other duties as designated by the Clinical Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS- Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
M.S.W. graduate from an accredited university program in Social Work (preferred)- B.S.W. graduate will be considered if other qualifications met (Essential)- Membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (Essential)- Experience within children/youth mental health or pediatric healthcare setting (preferred)- Demonstrated expertise and knowledge about children and youth presenting with acute and complex mental health issues. (Essential)- Knowledge and skill in using evidence-based interventions and modalities for treating sexual assault related trauma, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention, Trauma Focused approaches to care. (preferred)- Demonstrated ability to integrate the following approaches into practice: Strength-Based Perspective, Family System’s Theory, Crisis Intervention, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy & Grief & Bereavement (preferred)- Knowledge of community resources (Essential)- Well-developed counseling skills in individual, family and group therapy. (Essential)- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. (Essential)- Experience working with an interdisciplinary team. (preferred)- Bilingual (French and English) (preferred)
