**Child Life Therapy**

Reporting to the Manager ‑ Paediatrics, the Child Life Specialist is an unregulated health professional who is

specially trained to help children and their families understand and manage challenging life events and stressful

health care experiences. The Child Life Specialist will support and nurture children and their families through the

emotional and physical aspects of hospitalization. They will work collaboratively with the Paediatric Team to provide

children and their families with the support they need in times of illness, hospitalization, and/or during procedures.

The Child Life Specialist is skilled in providing developmental, educational and therapeutic interventions for children

and their families under stress. This staff member shall provide opportunities for children to play, thrive, and grow in

an abnormal and sometimes difficult environment while recognizing family strengths and individuality and respecting

the unique coping strategies of each child and family. The Child Life Specialist provides patient care or services in a

manner that is consistent with TBRHSC mission, vision, values and reflects the philosophy of Patient and Family

Centred Care.

Qualifications:

- Baccalaureate or Masters degree in child development, recreational development, child psychology, or counseling,

or a university degree with child life specialization
- Experience in working with children
- Certification as a current member of Child Life Specialist by Child Life Council or for those without certification, able

to demonstrate an education pathway or willingness to move towards certification.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with an inter disciplinary team
- Excellent organization skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated computer skills

Salary Range: $35.930 to 41.370
